477 "Simple" Build

We just finished up the dyno session on a 477 build for a friends 78 Fairmont yesterday. Very informitive session as we ran this engine the better part of 20 or so runs, mainly trying out some different intakes. We started off with a untouched Offy T/Ram with two 650DP Holleys and then switched to a TFS Mafia intake. Bigger carbs would surely have helped but thats all we had to use. I did try out my Offy single top plenum and it was worth around 20HP more than the twin top and no loss of TRQ. My top was ran with a 1050CFM Dom. The intake was then switched over to a new 'out of the box' TFS Mafia intake, with a TFS 1" spacer, and a 1050CFM Dom and thats what this combo seemed to prefer although we had to spin the eng more RPM. The dyno sheet I posted is the most conservitive pull with the TFS intake because no stud girdle was installed. We did spin to 6900 & 7000RPM and the eng responded to the tune of 687HP. The build is as follows: D1VE block(sonic checked), early 2Y crank, PEP H beam rods, SRP 'flat top" pistons, JE rings, Oregon Cams ground flat tappet solid cam (260/266@.050 110*L/Sep) Crower Cool Face lifters, Crower .120 wall P/Rods, Crower Stainless 1.73 Rockers, Isky V/Springs, & Ti Retainers. The comp. ratio worked out to 12.2 and VP110 fuel was used. 34* of timing seemed to be what worked the best. The heads were opened to CJ size on the Int. runner and bowl blended. All in all a straight forward combo with a tick over $5K wrapped in it....................
