Fuel injecting a 460, want to use the 5.0's EECIV.. Info/advice please

Ok motor details,

'71 460 w. C9VE Heads.


What I'm wanting to do is adapt a 5.0's EECIV FI system to my 460, but would like to talk to some folks who have done this in the past or are in the process of putting it together now. A *detailed* parts list would be ideal. any information is helpful though,

My main question would be the intake/fuel rails. what intake would you all recommend? is there a purpose built one for a reasonable price or is it smarter to just have the stock intake drilled for fuel injectors, and are there any fuel rails purpose built or is/should it be a fabricated setup as well?

I know I would need injectors, ECU, harness, Maf, Bonnet, TB and the assorted piping to put it all together. Just unclear on if I'm missing anything in the list and what exactly I should do with the intake/rails.




motor is already completly built. specs as follows

c9ve ported heads 2.19/1.75 valves
custom comp cam .588/.588 lift cam solid flat tappet
650 lift max valve springs
10 to 1 comp
h beam rods
probe pistons
stock intake soon to aftermarket.. prob stealth
high volum oil pump

forgot to mention a 225 shot of spray and no more than 6500 rpm,
here are cam specs


grind number 6259/6259

intake center line 109
duration @.50 intake 240 exhaust 240
lobe lift .3400 .3400
lobe seperation 113


Also, just out of curiousity to anyone thats done this, what do you figure it cost you start to finish?

Injector firing order is different from a 302/351w. You will need to do one of the following...get a TwEECer RT to change the injector firing order, get a cam ground with the 302ho/351w firing order or get a custom chip burnt for it. As far as intake goes, I'd recommend a Victor 460 converted to EFI.

here is a 521 that i am trying to get the bugs worked out of. it has an edelbrock air gap manifold thats been plumbed for the injectors. it has a mustang computer, a pro m 80 maf sensor, 60lbs injectors, 85mm accufab throttle body, trick flow heads, billet roller cam 624/627 lift, and a built c6.

right now it does not idle, i think the timing may be off some, but i am beginning to wonder if the iac will let enough air around it to run such a big motor. i can get it to idle by opening the throttle body slightly at around 1200rpm, but its not smooth. i believe it does have a custom chip. i am currently looking for a shop to take it too and have it tuned on a rear wheel dyno.

look over the custom coil mount! lol! it had a smog pump on it and the coil was mounted with that, i am going to mount the coil next to the head with a bracket. also the intake tubing will be changed to aluminum.

i dont know why, but they used a chevy powersteering pump and a massive bracket? thats getting tossed also.

The simpler fix would be to move the injector pins at the EEC connector.

The firing order change has been discussed on EEC tuner forums. The majority conclude that it is best to switch pins at the EEC to match the firing order, and then eliminate one of the Oxygen sensors and feed the existing O2 Signal return to both Left and right O2 signal return pins. Kind of like switching from stereo to Mono. Proven on Dyno and EEC datalogging not to cause a problem.

With the Programs on the market, you can do alot with an EEC-IV now. I just got a Moates Qaurter horse. It allows tuning on the fly!!! No need to remove the EEC and change/write the chip. It does it all at the push of a button, Even with the engine running.

Why not run a 460 computer made for mass air? A lot simpler than the sb route

i probably dropped close to $4500. my 460 was my third EFI conversion and i decided to buck up and purchased an entire kit from mass flo efi.

a9l computer, quality harness from the people who run the ford fuel injection dot com website, victor 460w/bungs and hi flow fuel rails, 1000cfm 4 barrel throttle body, gm 85 mm MAF meter, mallory efi distributor, all ford electronics, and everything for the fuel system except the tank.

had the engine cranked and running in 10 days. do not over look the fuel system, it takes additional time and money.

Firing order is an easy fix ... just unplug the injectors at the fuel rail and switch 5 and 3, and switch 4 and 7.

Works fine, i did it on my 528, dyno tuned and all.... tried it every which in the book, don't make a difference, its all the same crap.

Very important though.... your mass air meter need to be precalibrated for the size injector you plan on running. Professional mass air systems does this. You don't do this it won't run good at all...prob won't even idle.
