I want to start off first by saying I'm no expert but do know my way around engines. Here's a little background...
I currently have a '79 F250 , 6" lift, 35's, mild 460, 4 speed with 3.50 gears that I currently pull a 16ft car trailer with a '78 F150 trail truck on it. I was looking into getting a diesel this coming spring but realized I would have no need for my '79 anymore, keep in mind this has been a dream truck of mine since I was young. I figured for any diesel I'd be looking at $5k minimum! For that kind of money, I can build a really nice '79.
My question, how should I go about building the 460 for towing? Gas millage is a little bit of a concern but I do realize it's a big block. Currently its a D1VE stock block, D3VE heads with a intake gasket match, Eddy #7167 camshaft, Eddy dual plain performer intake, Holley 750 DP, full MSD ignition and L&L fender exit headers.
Plans are to build a solid engine for towing, freshen up the trans and t-case, re-gear to 3.73's and get a rust free cab.
Any and all suggestion are appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Just for good measure
