Isky 264 Mega ?

I am building an engine for a F250 4x4. It will be a tow rig, along with general pickup use.

I allready know what Scott (Mad Porter) said, 213/219 Lunati custom grind.
but I thought I would get a few more opinions.

I like Isky cams. But If you follow their thinking this will be way too much.
Heres the cam I was thinking about, also thinking I would advance it 2 degrees. Im not sure how to figure lobe seperation from the card. Anyone know what it is.

And yes I know its single pattern, I think I want to stay with a single for torque. I am also thinking about a Howards 213/213 .505/505 106 intake centerline, 111 lobe seperation

This is the combo.
Distributor settup from Scott
Stock bottom end
Stock pistons 30 over
The block will be decked but the crank isnt done yet to measure it up.
D3 heads will have a mild port job and bowl blend per Scotts page, guides topped to allow .540 lift incase I want it.
Performer intake
Currently have a 600 Eddy but will probably go bigger when money allows.
Will have headers and good exhaust eventually.
Truck is an extended cab 85 longbox 4x4.
C6, 4.10s, 28575r16 rubber

What do you guys think. Am I going overboard with cam?

That Isky cam is ground with no advance. ICL/LS are the same @ 108.Listen to Scotty J.. He does this for a living and knows what he's doing. At 7.9ish C/R, your truck would be a dog with a very narrow power band with a 108 IMHO. You need to build cylinder pressure.

Installing it 2 degrees advanced is not enough.
It is ground "straight-up" at 108 degrees so, advance it 5 or 6 degrees for what you intend to do with the vehicle.
As you can see ... that Howards is already 5 degrees advanced.

Randy, for learning purposes, lets say I did go that route. If i figure right I could set the cam sprocket 1 tooth advanced, and set the crank sprocket at 2 retarded. If i figure it right that would put the cam at 6.18 advanced.
What effect would the exhaust being that advanced do? If I understand correctly,( I may have no idea) that would put the exhaust at about 102 centerline.
Im not only wanting to pick out a cam, Im also trying to understand why.
Would that cam be best suited if it were ground on a 106 intake and 114 exhuast?
I may very well go with the Howards cam, but I am trying to better understand what different things will do.

That lift could be just a touch to much for stock pistions.

I've run that cam in an otherwise stock 351 Cleveland and it ran really well. Having a narrower lobe separation will work well in a low compression engine. You could always install it on a 104 intake centerline anyway. I think that's what I did on mine but that's been a long time ago.

Why not do a custom cam? If you search you will find that is the best bet

I would highly recommend a dual pattern cam. A single pattern does not make more torque, a dual pattern cam does!! D3's are not very strong on the exhaust side (porting will surely help here), so give them all the help they need to evacuate the spent gasses.

One tooth, with a double roller chain having 22 teeth in the crank sprocket is 16.36 crankshaft degrees.
Advancing one tooth and then retarding it 2 camshaft degrees, (which is 4 crankshaft degrees), would end-up at 12.36 degrees advanced.
Some timing sets have 4 camshaft degree slots and some have 4 degree crankshaft slots so, you have to know what you have. The ones with 9 slots are in crankshaft degrees.
A 102 intake lobe centerline with that ISKY cam would be 114 degree exhaust lobe centerline; (5 or 6 degrees is about right).
With a single pattern camshaft ... in most situations, you would like the intake closing point to be about 8 to 14 degrees LESS than the exhaust opening point.
