Help, FMS SCJ Head ID

I looked for discussions I'd seen before but couldn't find them. I have been having a new ( from porting & machining shop ) set of FMS - SCJ heads sitting on my shelf for about 3 years or more waiting til I could afford to build a whole new motor to use them on. Tonight I had the heads DOOE-R off of the motor in my car & got to a point that I was going to be waiting until I ordered Head gaskets & I just couldn't help getting one of the SCJ's down to at least look at one on my motor. Well, I installed the springs for testing the valve to piston clearance. I put some heavy grease on top of the piston & rolled it to TDC.I then Pushed the valves down to contact the TRW L2443N piston & to my surprise the valve is flat with the pocket WTHeck.. I went on & checked the P-V clearance & had .025 on the Intake & ,023 on exhaust. I put the iron head on & found that the clearances were almost identical. I acquired this motor already running in a car & this is the first time that I've been in the motor except to adjust valve lash, which I found Rediculously loose. I checked the valve lift on the cam & it has .680 intake & .690 exhaust. I looked for #'s & found two sets first 35227 and 21495 on one head. My question is did they ever make this head with standard layout, & how do I tell the difference?

My biggest fear is that when I die, my wife will sell all my cars & race parts for what I told her I paid for them !!!

Intake piston to valve clearance will be tightest somewhere between 15 degrees BTDC and 15 degrees ATDC during overlap. Typically the intake valve is chasing the piston down the bore just after TDC when the piston is moving relatively slowly and the valve is opening quickly...

Check it with clay then dissect the clay to check actual clearance both to pocket and radial...

clearence

X2 most people think the valve is closest at TDC and its not, like scotty said its like 15* or so BTDC and ATDC the clay will tell the tail!! good luck

FRPP "Super Cobra Jet" head I.D. is pretty simple. It says in machined letters "Super Cobra Jet" right on the FLAT ends of the head.

An FRPP "Cobra Jet", (which has OEM valve angles and locations), has that cast name in the ends.

X3. Clay is the only method that I use for V/P clearance. (Actually it's some plumbers putty that I've had around forever....but it works the same lol)

Well, here are my choices, buy new smaller cam & lifters & maybe springs, Have valve pockets milled for clearance, put a CCam 282H (this really isn't one of my favorite choices), now that I know my heads aren't the good Kasse heads it opens plenty of options for a whole different set-up. Anyone know a good machine shop in south Miss. , Jackson or Hattiesburg.
