SCJ Heads to Edelbroke Aluminum heads

I'm buying a 557 ci engine from a guy and it has SCJ iron heads on it now, it made 710hp at the flywheel on E85. My question is to save weight would it be a good idea to switch to Edelbroke aluminum dove style heads? The engine is going in my 94 mustang and will see 75% street duty.

Eddy heads will prob cost you power. The eddy heads are great for engines that need 95cc chambers and a huge drop in weight. They can be ported to flow much better and I currently have the 95cc eddy heads on my 521 out of the box and they are a good street head. If ur going from the iron SCJ to the eddys with 95cc chambers u will drop the compression which will cost u power as well, if u stock with the 75cc eddys they should be fine but they don't flow as much as the SCJ.

Why don't you go with the SCJ aluminum castings? They are cheaper than the eddys I think.

eddy's

we have a set of Eddy's on the Cyclone and its a .060 over 460 and the heads are 70.5 cc's with flat tops and it runs 6.60's in the 1/8th and it weights 3700 in race trim

Eddys

I already have the eddy heads. And want to shave some weight off the frontend of my mustang.But I don't want to loose too much power, how much power do you think I would loose? Would the loss in power make up the the weight? I guess I could spray it with like a 100-200 shot. I just have a few loud mouthed vette and GTO drivers to shut up.

I would run it like it is and see what she does, being 75% street I wouldn't think the weight savings would even matter, 710 fwhp is lots of power to hook up in a 94 stang.

if you already have them just take them to your local machine shop and have them milled, its only about 100 bucks to do both, and you can make them what ever you want, if you thought they were to high in compression then don't cut them much but if you don't have a problem with your compression now then make them the same

Edelbrocks are actually very decent heads if rubbed on. They are an equivalent head to the A-429 and not that far behind the Kaase SCJ. Some porting with larger valves and some bowl blending will make a pretty killer set of heads. Go with the 75cc chambers. Uncle Charlie did a set for me that are capable of 850-875HP in a Stroker race application. Not bad for a CJ head.

I agree , I like the Edelbrocks also. I think you'd find the heads would likely flow similar, even a good ported cast iron head still has some limitations at the exhaust port.
With the edelbrocks to make them nice , I'd give the intakes a basic clean up, a little work in the bowls as a clean up, and some porting on the exhaust ports to clean up some of the lumps and bumps
