Got my new carb on and doing some tuning. Its a quickfuel ss 780 vac secondary. Have to say, super nice carb. Pleased with the quality and performance so far. So my question. Got it jetted, did some jetting with the air bleeds. Everything is really good, good fuel curve all around. From idle to WOT when you floor it, doesn't miss a beat. From part throttle at say 40 or 50 when you floor it, it has a lean stumble that clears up. So I'm assuming the squirter size is good since it launches well, and probably need to go to a different cam on the throttle shaft? That last statement could be totally wrong, so feel free to educate me. Thanks for any insight.
I know every motor is different but I bought the same carb and uses a vacuum gauge set it runs great. I did have quick fuel build my carb in blue and its gas and I was missing the vacuum port on the metering block called quick fuel and they said they used the Q Series metering blocks on mine because they had them there in blue not sure if that means anything or not but carb tuning is my weak link I can rebuild any carb perfect but tuning I know just a little bit that why I'm going to get A/F meter I'm sure mine could be tuned better and maybe a pro will answer you and I can learn something as well good luck
An earlier opening power valve may also help. An earlier opening power valve won't add fuel to idle circuit unless the diaphragm is ruptured, it isn't tightened correctly into the metering block or the PV gasket is bad. If the QF has a 6.5" PV try an 8.5" or even a 10.5".
Thats funny, I thought about getting blue too. It did run pretty good out of the box, but it was pretty rich everywhere, the wideband is something I will always run now. I was able to clean up the fuel a little and squeeze a little more power out. Just gives you a lot of insight into whats going on. Thanks, I'll probably try a different power valve and play with the squirters and cams. Luckily most of the Holley stuff works so I won't have to get a bunch more stuff. I probably have four hundred bucks worth of carb crap in the toolboxes already. Definitely like this carb. Pretty clean piece.
