Junk yard 460 good for 600 hp with little mods

Thought this would help on getting a base line of what a junk yard 460 can do with a little budget .

i did something similar 11 years ago but i put it thru a overhaul. i did the slight porting of c9 heads, 274xe cam and a stealth intake with a 870 carb. i don't know if i reached the 450hp mark. would of been nice to see a 609hp mark too though but i had to do that with a stroker build.

Type 557 in the search for that magazine and part three will come up.

They built a pro comp 6.7" rod, 4.5" stroke, 11:1, 557" motor with p-51's.

With the junkyard oil pan, and 2 1/8" headers, and box stock heads with a victor intake they made 833hp @ 6,800 rpm and 712 lbs-ft @ 5,600.

Just goes to show you that even a so-so build with p-51's makes AWESOME power!
