Question Ford C6 Shift link question

Hi y'all,

got a question reg. the shift linkage on the C6: How do I remove the stock linkage? The kick-down lever came off easy. It is only held in place by a 1/2" nut. The main lever does move just a fraction of an inch axially in and out but seems to hit a hard stop. Do I need to drop the pan and do something from the inside to unlock it?
It has to come off since I need to install the lever for the B&M shifter.
Any words of wisdome?

I assume that you are refering to the shift lever that the kickdown lever pivot goes thru, correct? If so, you need to remove the trans pan and valve body, there is a large nut that attatches the lever inside the case.

I don't think you have to remove the whole thing, just trim the arm off.

The B&M site http://www.bmracing.com/PRODUCTS/Com...aluminum-cover has the instructions part way down. It shows just trimming off the shaded area of the stock shift arm. The B&M shift arm just clamps around the remaining stub.

Thanks for the responses, guys!
Yes - you are correct: I misreads the instructions. The lever has to be trimmed off and the new one goes over the large round part. The illustration for how to trim the lever is shown with the C4 transmission and in the next picture, they show the lever installed on the C6. I assumed that only the C4 lever has to be trimmed off and the C6 one needs to come off. I should have taken the C6 lever out of the bag - the size of the hole would have made it very clear right there. Duhhh...

I think we have all had problems understanding the directions of universal fit components at some time or another. I had a hell of a time on my moroso electric waterpump drive kit the directions made no sense so after an hour screwing with it I came in the house and looked through pics of engines on here til I found a clear pic of where it had to go.

Yep

I just put in a B&M Star shifter, you are right. I had to trim the stock shift linkage. Don't try to cut it with a hack saw, must be spring steel. Had to use a small angle grinder, after removing the header collector there was room to get to it.
