Anybody still using John Deere HY-GARD fluid in their C6/C4's? I recall a few years back I had heard about a lot of people using it in place of "STD" ATF.
I did for a few years, it tightened up the converter quite a bit and dropped the RPM on the highway a couple hundred. My new build will be getting J20D spec most likely, which is a lighter weight than J20C and probably a little closer to type F from what I've been reading. If I need to tighten the converter I'll go to J20C. If you look over on Yellowbullet and a few other forums, guys are still running tractor oil because it's super cheap compared to performance ATF and allows you to change fluid more often due to price alone. Plus it just works. I'm not really convinced $10 a quart performance oil is needed in these old transmissions.
