Here are the results of the bb carb shootout

BLP Racing Products
Well here are the results for the BB Portion of this competition

Elite 8 were as follows
AED (Advanced Engine Design)
Braswell Carburetion
APD (Advanced Product Design)
CFM (Cubic Flow Modifications)
KB Carburetors
DaVinci Performance
Holley Performance
POW

AED was the best carb "out of the box" in the sb and bb shootout and won the bb tuned shootout and come 2nd in the sb tuned shootout.

In the sb shootout a NO BRAND NAME (guy called Mark W) built his own carb and won.

They will release all the details and full results soon, will post it later for anyone interested

cool. I had aed make me a 4150 mainbody and rework my metering plates for my 460. On the dyno all that needed done was go up 1 jet size and it was prefect. John at aed provided plenty of info and answered all of my questions. I'll be having them tune up a dommy for my next build.

Pro systems SV-1 was used in the sb shootout but wasnt tuned by patrick as he declined to enter the contest as did other well know carb builders. It didnt make the final 8 shootout. I thought QFT would have done better!!

The sb shootout the top 8 were within 8 hp of each other which isnt too bad.

Were some of the carbs just out of the box and others ordered by custom shops. Say like a QF is extriemly tuneable but not necsessarly as good a tune as one that was ordered for the engine build like a Nickerson or C&S or such

That's the problem with "carb shootouts". They test carbs in as-delivered condition and proclaim a winner, when in reality, they've only found the carb with the tune that works best on the particular engine used for testing. Same problem exists with "intake shootouts".

I don't know where the idea of a pre-tuned carb came from. Adjusting for conditions is one of the most basic principles in racing. It's the reason carbs have changable jets, airbleeds, etc.

Your one stop shop for BBF engines and parts
Master dealer for Lunati and Diamond
Warehouse distributor for AFR, Racetec, Quickfuel, Holley, Edelbrock, Phenix, and most other speed parts

Small block results

"out of the box" 1st AED

"Tuned" 1st QFT....2nd AED

Big Block results next day or two!!

Now this shootout each carb company (builder) was giving complete specs of "ENGINE"..............so "out of the box" is tested the way the carb builder built it to suit that engine and is not allowed to touch the carb when on the dyno............"tuned" is they are allowed to modifi or make changes while on the dyno.

All the carbs were again pretty close.

Now my question is who will get the most out of this Engine a carb builder or an engine builder???

Im guessing engine builder!!

Cheers, Bob
