I rescued this one from the nevada desert.
The former owners were letting it die a slow and painfull death. Lol
As it sits, 302 C4(maybe FMX), and 8" rear.
Since this photo, I have moved it into my workshop and have began initial cleaning. Scraping off the old window tint, vacuum, and
evaluating the interior.
The car runs ok, but the trans is slipping.
I have a 1971 460 with 73 heads, along with a C6 to eventually get installed. I am looking at some DOVEC heads. I will go into my thoughts on the engine build later. I am looking for 500 hp.
The 8 in rear has to go. I am looking for a 9 in to replace it with. This is going to be fun.
Well, the responses to my original thread are overwhelming. LOL Thanks for the welcome!
Since 9/5 - I have found some C8VE heads for the 460 and a 9" rear from a 1969 F100 to replace the 8" rear currently in the car.. .
I bought a new battery and the 302 runs great, although the C4 is leaking trans fluid. As long as the car can be driven/moved around my shop is fine for now.
Repair patch panels for the rear quarters are rare to say the least. No one makes them that I have found. Anyone have a connection?
Worst case scenario I will have some patch pieces made at a metal shop, plus lead fill and filler.
Power washed the engine compartment and under carriage, looks much better and cleaner to work on.
Next week start removing the interior, deep cleaning, getting prices for the custom upholstery, and carpet. I am also looking for some bucket seats to replace the front bench.
Soon as it starts to look improved I will put up some pictures.
It has the smog pistons (bathtub) since it is a 74.
My plan is to use the C9VE heads for a year or two, then buy some new P51 or TF heads.
I also plan on replacing the crank and pistons for the C9VE heads now with the goal of them being a great match for the P51's that I can bolt up later.
Any recommendation regarding piston type(forged) and target compression ratio?
This car will be 75% street (cruising) /25% strip for fun.
Thanks. It was on Craigslist forever, and the guy kept dropping his price. I paid 1500.00
I have had Mustangs, Thunderbirds, and Capri's, so I thought I would look for something a bit more rare and different.
The BBF will definitely make it more fun to drive.
The halo rag top is dam ugly to me, but this car was a "spring time special" model. It is somewhat rare in that sense.
Still leaning toward getting rid of of the rag.
