would you install a c4 behind a 700hp big block?

Been doing some reading, and come across a few guys arguing about glide or c4. Anyways, from what I've seen personally, most use a glide or c6 behind a big block, and it seems like a c4 couldn't stand up to that much horsepower for long before it destroys itself. I can see a c4 being used for a street application, and maybe some track use, but not a dedicated racecar. Am I wrong? Transmission Guru's please chime in.

Can a C4 handle 700hp...YES.........But they need alot more Maintainace sooner.........By going with a C6, powerglide or even a turbo 400(i got one)....less $$$ and stronger, plus less maintainance.

But im no trans guru!!!

A heavily modified c4 would be high dollar and high up keep.
Pretty hard to beat a mostly stock c6 with the mods that Frank Merkle has outlined in the sticky's.... and low to none to keep up or worry about.

THE BEST C4 lasts about 20 good passes then it slows about 100th or so,and get slower from there, this is w/trans brake and 800hp plus, the tq and the heat is what kills em.

round robin with lots of power better cool it very well

street big cooler,no brake? it will last a lot longer

so for your question about your deal, sure why not

but if you never want to worry, and when you want more power use a c6

What about a stock c4 behind a stock 429? How would that handle?. I know it would put more to the ground than the power robbing c6.

i currently use a tko600 and want to go to an automatic sometime. and i keep on going back and fourth between a ford c4 and a c6 or even a powerglide chevy.

i have a bbf c6 trans in the backyard that has been sitting in the elements. and my car is a OEM c6 car so thats a plus.

i will make 100% sure before i do the plunge.

C4

C4 cost more to build but will hold up to 700hp. I'm running 85 mustang with spray around 800hp going on 2nd season was torn done after 1st season no problem found. Ran car on street drove 30 miles to the track, 1st season was at track every week end. If trans is built right will hold up, c6 will be much cheaper to build. Joe

I have to agree the C6 is going to be much cheaper. If your will to pull the trans and freshen it up more often than the C6 you can use the advantage of power the C4 would give. Personally i have might mite from Dynamic Racing with trans brake and converter form them. I am pushing 950hp on pump on the street and will go to the track on the weekends. The trans is fully rolerized with many aftermarket upgrades and we also switched the gearing in it as to not have such a worthless 1st gear. I would give them a call they will tell you straight up if it will work or if they recommend something else.

Rich i'm sure you know the answer to your questions and you're trying to prove your point. We both know the car ain't done and its gone 0 miles and 0 passes. I am with you that the C6 is less maintenance and cheaper, however we all know the c6 robs more power than the c4. If he is willing to pull it ever couple of weeks then thats up to him. Most want to put the trans in and forget about for a good part of the season. I personally have mine in with a mid plate and removable trans mount so its easy to pull mine out. Dynamic Racing did try some new parts and new things on my trans and im the geni pig on it.
