Transmission bump shifters

I tried searching, but not sure exactly what to search for to get the results I want, so I figured I'd ask the question...

Can you set up a transmission (particularly a c6) to be used with a bump shifter... but still have the capability of putting it in drive, and having it shift on its own?

This is more of a curiosity thing than anything. I don't plan on doing it. Just don't know how all this automatic transmission stuff works.

I have a B&M shifter that has drive and second. Then first if you pull it all the way down it has a bump action. So I can start in first and bumo the shofter to second and bump again to third. Hope this helps.

I believe what your looking for is a ratchet shifter. There is no mods.needed for the transmission it's just a matter of installing a ratchet shifter.

You want to race for cheap? Drive a chev. If you want to win? Drive a FORD!

I use a B&M Megashifter. Here is a link: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-80690

There are no internal modifications necessary to make it work. Just intall it and go. They work VERY well when installed correctly.
