hello, new here.
I am building a 600'' engine all aluminum with, Blue Thunder Thor heads, into a fox body coupe.
It will be a drag radial car with 315's mt. my currernt combo; is a 400'' all aluminum yates headed engine that weighs 3050 lbs. w/driver and has been 8 teens @170 mph with a plate system (350 shot).
i wolud like to know if this 600'' will put me into the 7.50 range or what will it take to get it there ? Also what do you think it would weight ?
Thanks for your help. :!:

Talk to Craig Sullivan(SQ34), he just built one this past season. He is on the website.

To be very accurate we would need to see a lot more information like cam specs, gear ratio, carburetion and such.
In general you will gain some weight based on the bigger pieces. My car gained roughly 100 lbs going from an iron headed cleveland with a tunnel ram to an iron block aluminum head Big Block.
My Quarter jr. program says you have around 1200 hp right now and that you would need a little over 1500 to run 7.50. I made a bunch of assumptions like powerglide and stuff but generally the hp wont change much using different trannys etc. You just have to have the correct gearing etc.
Expect to have traction problems in the first 60 feet (even more so than you do now) and you will almost surely have to change rear gears to suit your new torque curve.
Good luck it sounds like a fun ride.

rear gear would be a 3.50 or 3.73, camshaft ; TBD.
2 stage nos with single carb;
powerglide.
thanks for your input !

I want to see the headers for this thing. A Thor head isn't exactly small.

I have a friend that has a 598 with Thor heads in a 93 coupe. They run 5.30s with a small amount of nitrous at 3350 lbs. on true 10" tires with stock suspension. The Thor heads are pretty big for a 598 engine. I'm not sure if this combo will get you to the 7.50 range.

I would think something along the line of 650-700 ci to take advantage of the Thor heads. Unless you want to have a smaller engine & turn it higher. Just my thoughts & I'm not an expert. I just love cubic inches.. :twisted:
Do the math,a conservative number of 1100 hp and 850 torque. I feel you will be short.
A more of a budget and still get ther would be a C-headed combo 75 hp less and the same torque.
