at 7500 rpms with the dominator and the Kasse heads step away from the "blue" if your running a return system there are so many better pumps to choose from. my lil 466 witha 850 DP has a 280 gph pump.

If the fuel tank is in front of the motor maybe. Otherwise not a chance.
I would think even the 280 would be stretching it.

If you have a return regulator and that means you will have to take the relief out of the Blue pump and block it off completely! it will pump way more than you might think.
I have 2 Blue pumps and with my relief Regulator I can fill a Gallon can in like under 9 seconds and that breaks down to 400+ gal per hour.

Something to ponder I have Dyno Don Nicholsons old prostock 351C and it made 700hp @8200 rpm and he only ran 2 blue Holleys and NO return regulator and ran low 8 second 1/4 with it, and it had 2 1050 Dominators on it. Also He had the first 7 second car and it had a 385 series BBF and Aluminum Heads and ran 2 1050's on it with the same 2 Holley Blue Pumps and had NO return Regulator on it.

Now days we have to have fuel systems that can flow a billion gallons per hour to supposedly run that same time, WHY?

Now days we have to have fuel systems that can flow a billion gallons per hour to supposedly run that same time, WHY?

One possible reason is that there are cars out there these days that can have some amazing 60ft times that were unheard of years ago for a given body/chassis setup. These high launch loads can really be hell on a rear mounted fuel pump, especially if a really big main fuel line is used. The increased fuel weight/volume of a large fuel line pushing back against the pump (from the G-forces at the launch) must really pound the crap out of an older design pump like the Holley with it's small pump vane surface area.

Another thing about the old Holley pump design (red, blue, or black pump) is at times it seems (in my opinion) they start leaking at the seals quickly, even on a fairly fresh pump.

I think the launch effect is key. My car (C-head, 555c.i.) runs fine with a Holley Black pump, but in road racing it never sees full throttle from a standing start. For reliability reasons I run two pumps, so I can switch to a backup during a race. The only time I have ever had a problem is when a pump has lost its seals. Since I have a good idea about the life of the Holley Black under the operating conditions of my motor, I am reticent to switch to something fancier.

in response to fuel pump test barry grant specs are as follows:insert lines going to carb into test jug [after regulator]10 second cars need to pump 1 gallon in 25 seconds or less .9second cars 1 gallon in 20 or less 8 second cars 1 gallon in 15 or less and 7 second cars 1gallon in 12 or less seconds. i never liked blue pumps because if not ran often they get a build up of rust on vanes and sometimes not work my fuel has always came straight from a 55 gallon drum dont know where moisture was coming from

I haven't much luck with the Holley Blue's either. I went through 2 in 8 month's.

I have had a blue pump on my 472 car for the past 4 yrs, with fully ported motorsport heads and 1050. It runs 9.60's all day long at 7/8lbs. of fuel pressure w/o a problem. Try one, if your fuel pressure stays up it will be fine. But thats just my opinion!

i think that is what i am gonna do i am getting a heck of a deal basicly he is ask what he payed for the BG filter and i am getting the reg, pump and filter so even if the pump isnt big enof than i can buy a bigger pump and still have saved i few cents but i kinda like what couger did maybe that is what is done to this pump and that is why it supported a 900+hp motor

I don't think there is gonna be any ungodly g forces working against the pump, you typically don't launch very fast with 60,000 lbs chained to the hitch. If the pump is good I bet it will work fine.

And you might get 1500 hp out of a stock block for a few passes as well  I have had all kinds of trouble out of the Holley blues, used to have to hit it with a hammer to get it to work during a race. You usually get what you pay for, go get a BG400 and be done with it. Even if someone powered a top fuel dragster with one it just ain't the pump of choice.

took the boat out last weekend just a little 502 with 850 dp was running out of gas on the launch. i just set the pressure to 8lbs a couple of days before, went back and checked the fuel press and only 3lbs tried to adjust the regulator wont adjust so i smacked that blue pump with a hammer and WHAMO press back up. no probs since but definatly looking into a different pump.

If you want a decent pump/price go with the mallory 250. you can usually ebay it for 125.00 used.

had to hit everyone i have ever owned with a hammer. holley should give you a hammer in the box when you buy the pump

Ain't that the truth. I have had two that way and some friends with the same problem. The pumps are just junk, IN MY SOLE OPINION.

well i dont like the idea of smacking my pump befor a pull that might get kinda old afterawhile and kinda embarssing i am still thinking on what to do but i have decided to not jump into anything for the simple idea of i dont want to cut to many corners when it comes time when i need a pump and reg and filter i might just post a wanted ad on here i have had great luck on here so far so if anyone hears of anything in the next month or so keep me in mind i think the blue pump would flow enof but i want a relible pump one that dosent require a hammer
thanxs for the great advice and words of wisdom

One of the Aeromotive brand pumps would probably cost less than a killer Magnafuel 500 setup while being an improvement over the Holley crap.

A while back I think someone mentioned switching from Holley to the Aeromotive stuff, but I can't remember which pump or who it was that switched (Paul Kane maybe?).
