511Fox 07-26-2007, 01:20 PM Interesting I own a '97 Merc. Never thought about this swap :!:
darkdrifter 03-05-2008, 01:56 PM this kind of swap is why I registered here.
I've got a 92 crown vic with 250,000 miles on it, and I'm thinking it looks like a great place for a bbf.

He has dozens of pics but no descriptions of anything so I don't know what mounts or pan he used. He was a member of the Network 54 Forum so maybe you could try searching the archives. Lee
grand_marquis_gt 03-07-2008, 12:55 AM I'm assembling parts for a big block in my 84 Grand Marquis 2dr...
PM me!
Headers are going to be a pain. I'm going the custom route, $$$...
The fox chassis app oilpan should work. I'm pretty sure that is what Ed is running. I have a line on a Canton 7qt for fox chassis that should work well.
Mounts shouldn't be hard. I was going to actually build my own. Solid mounts. I should look into 70's barge lincoln mounts too. I know the torinos/cougars/LTD II of the era all used the same mounts as well. Some options DO exist. I am probably going to end up breaking out the MIG.
A lot.

This car is an '88-'91 model, so if he did it then it can be done. Darkdrifter's '92 however is different as far as sheetmetal goes, but the frame is the same as the box-models, so if the big block fits in a box-model it will fit in the aero as well - hood may not close, but engine will be there :D
grand_marquis_gt 03-07-2008, 02:09 AM Who needs a hood, anyways?

The last 6 or 7 pics on that page are of his headers. Originally I know he was using iron manifolds. One of the header pics:

I think he is also a member on CrownVic.net
I'll see if I can find an e-mail address. Lee
1FSTCAT 03-07-2008, 07:28 AM Hey everyone! It's a snowy day in Cincinnati! Hope yours is better.
I still have the car and it still runs! It's been in storage for slightly over a year, due to a divorce and some other personal stuff.
The mounts I used were fox swap mounts that I bought on Ebay. The headers came from Ford Powertrain Performance :
http://www.fordpowertrain.com/429-460shortyII.htm
They never exactly looked like the picture, but they fit GREAT.
Greg at Speedydyno.com has a video of it running on the dyno:
http://www.speedydyno.com/videos.cgi?page=2
(It's the last one on the page)
I ended up flipping the AOD transmission support upside down and redrilling it, and it worked perfectly for the long Lincoln C6 that I used. If you used a standard C6, you might not have to flip the center support. Obviously a 4 speed transmission would probably help fuel economy, and nowadays should be absolute must, if you're building a show car.
Mine has 3.08 gears and at about 70 MPH it's running 3000 RPM. It got about 12 MPG on my trip to Owensboro with it.
I never got it worked out and making the power that it should make. The last thing I did was determine that the fuel pump in the car was only good for 225 horsepower. I bought an external pump and some of the mounting stuff, but I needed to do some more work to install all of that.
Let me know if I can answer any more questions!

grand_marquis_gt 03-07-2008, 08:10 AM Ed,
Did you have those headers custom built?
They look like they cost a pretty penny.
1FSTCAT 03-07-2008, 08:20 AM No, they were as-is from Ford Powertrain Performance. Coated, I think they ran about $750 for the set.
As a side note, I had the car dyno'd in the video above with the cast iron logs installed. I installed the long headers and removed the high flow cats and had it dyno'd again, and it looked almost exactly the same. I anticipate whatever the problem is with it, whether it be fuel delivery, or a cam timing problem, ultimately, the long headers should have made a significant improvement to power output.

grand_marquis_gt 03-07-2008, 08:53 AM I'll have to give them a call. They still in business?
Also, do they make in 2" primaries?
1FSTCAT 03-07-2008, 10:24 AM I linked it above..

grand_marquis_gt 03-07-2008, 02:35 PM I really need to pay attention in the morning
Glad to see you still have it. I heard a rumor that you parted it out, and was scrambling..

1FSTCAT 03-07-2008, 04:49 PM Actually, about 6 months ago, I almost bought a second 460 Crown Vic.
Someone on the east coast had built an '89 a while back and let it go to pot. It sold on Ebay for about $1150 and the guy who bought it was supposedly going to part it out and take the motor out of the body. I was pretty close to owning that one, too. :)

grand_marquis_gt 03-08-2008, 10:36 AM I was bidding on that same crown vic. Shame it got parted out!
I even tried getting ahold of the guy parting it out...
