If your running DR's or slick it will brake it's just a matter of time ! I have broke a few posi units then I want to a spool and bent the axle tubes "lol" I just put a 9inch in the car so I should be good to go now .

I have 100 passes this year on my 8.8, but the axle tubes are welded to the pot, as the pot can twist up into the floor..........no problems yet. I know guys running 8's with an 8.8, and im sure there are guys that run faster than that........

An 8.8 is fine, just need to get rid of the C-clips, Put some good 31+ spline axles in, and think about a full spool if its a race car or an aftermarket Carrier.

Also think about having the housing straitened, tubes welded and putting a gurdle on it.

I would pull the axles and check the splines and paint a line down the center from end to end this will tell you how much twist has occured. I have ran stock 28 spline w/ drag raidals and a 2400 stall w/ a 150+ passes and seen only mild twist. I am running 31 spline mosers now for piece of mind but the stock stuff will work but you must keep checking it from time to time. Just keep in mind all stock parts have limits and most 8.8's in car were not built for big block's from the factory

the stock rear end clutches will not handle 460 torque. i almost went in the wall because one wheel stopped pulling. you need a spool or a very good traction lock. think saftey 1st. this was a 10.80 / 6.80 car at the time when i 1st started out.

Use the carbon discs Traction-Lok rebuild kit to take big block abuse. M-4700-C. Its no 9" substitute but for an 8.8" Traction-Lok its the best you can do.
