i plan on notching out the floor reinforcment there to clear the bar, and more then likely weld them together!

only reason im asking, is the rules state you need the door bars if you put in aluminum flooring! im not im using sheet steel, and thinking of modding my trans tunnel. you ever swapped this in before, beat the living crap out of it!

so im fitting the motor/trans/headers back in, but sitting the engine farther back in the k-member.(next slot back) and wondering how much more room ill need. but id like too be able too remove the trans with out pulling the motor!
I was thinking of cutting a trans tunnel out of a different car and crafting into mine, giving me more room around the trans area! and if i do, will i need door bars?

dicissions ! :?: :?:

When you say "out riggers" I assume your talking about an out board rocker/sill bar judging by where the yellow lines are on the pic.

Rocker bars may/may not be required depending on how much of the car's floor is modified. According to the rule book the rocker bar can be attached to the bottoms of the main hoop, the front windshield "A" pillar bars, the rear main hoop crossmember, the front crossmember stubs the "A" pillar bars attach to, the bottoms of the dr/pas door X bars.

Regardless of the rules, in my opinion full door "X" bars, rocker bars, and a roof diagonal bar should be used any time the trans/driveshaft tunnel is no longer a permanent fixture of the car. On a uni-body type car the trans/driveshaft tunnel is like the backbone of the chassis, and helps make it more rigid.

YES and notching the stock floor and seaming in the rocker bars is a great idea.

diag roof bar?

Bar running diagonally from corner to corner (usually passenger side main hoop to driver side halo bar) also gives great place to mount parachute handle too.

gearhead, keep us updated on the floor, ive been pondering about doing the same to my car, since the floor is all cracked and needs welded, and if you could, can you put some more pics up of the welding you have done in the engine bay.

thanks
