Ok all you guys that have dry sumps systems. how often do you drain your oil pans.
And how much oil is in the pan when you do drain them.

I don't know if my system can keep up or I might have to many in line filters on it where it can suck up all the oil as it is pumped into the engine. Each suction line in my system has a in line 40 micron filter on it. I pulled one of the in line filter today and drained about 6 qt's of oil in the pan, I think that's to much oil in the pan.

How long was it since the engine last ran till you pulled the line and is your pump and tank located higher than the pan outlet fittings?

Dan, when our car sits( a few days), the oil will drain from the tank into the pan. The oil will flow back thu the pump. That is one reason the oil level is check when the engine is running. The only filter we run is in the pressure line. The returns just have a screen in the fitting for the oil return lines.

I'm thinking that 40 microns, in EACH line is a bit to fine. IMHO, 100 micron will stop any junk that might damage the pump.

I run a peterson pump with a Stefs pan and if I shut the motor down and open the pan drain I get about 5-6 quarts out as well within a few minutes not days.

This was my first year with a dry sump but I also thought that was a little on the high side.

End up with about 5 or 6 in the pan and 10 0r 11 total in the system.
