oil pressure concern

just finished my 472 and got it running. at cold idle it runs between 40-50. when it gets warm it runs right above 10 at idle but it will increase with rpms. i m running a standard oil pump which is should still make decent pressure. and as we were re adjusting the rockers by bumping the motor and it seemed to be pumping oil really well. so i was wondering about somethings to do before complete de assembly. i have checked and swapped filters and have run rottella and 20/50 valveoline race.

What is oil pressure at 3000 rpm? 5000 rpm? Your idle pressure may be low only because of looser-than-OEM-spec bearing clearances that are allowing oil to bleed off at a rate faster than the std volume oil pump's oil pumping volume at idle.

Do you have roller cam because i had the same problem and it was my lifters were in backwards.Link bar to center of the motor.

this motor does not have a roller cam, but i was able to do some test pressures to see what you guy think. At cold start up it stays around 60.
Hot idle is 15 to 20. 3000 rpms is around 40 and at 5000 rpms its at about 45 but it starts to slighty decrease if you hold it awhile. i believe the clearnences were at about .0025. so am i alright for a strip/street fox.

hi, with your clearances and 20/50 oil i would expect 65/80 psi on cold start, try a heavier oil first 25/60 or even 40/70 to see what happens, if your oil pressure is still under 25/35 psi at idle hot something is wrong, i always prefer a hi/volume pump and i do not use valvoline oil's
