destroying oil filters

I hope someone can help me with this problem. I have a 472 it spends a lot of time at the track. This year it decided to start destroying oil filters. I cannot figure out what is going on.

Everything will be fine and I will make a pass and the oil pressure is setting at 40#. It doesn’t matter if it is at idle or 5000rpm. The filters are coming apart inside. Then the oil goes to bypass. It has done it with Fram and Wex Racing filters.

Any Ideas??

Did you up grade your oil pump and modify the pressure valve?

How much oil pressure do you have at WOT. The reg. Fram is not a good choice for a race engine But, the Wix should be OK  Try Jomar or K&N. LOL Rick

I found out that K&N have bypasses in them or the ones I used did...

no more, for me Jomars for now on

Question for you guys on the Wix, I see really cheap Wix filters at O'Reillys now. I never seen them so cheap before, the store is new around here so maybe it's there price, or maybe they came out with a lower quality filter?

This is a pump gas motor.

has a Melling pump.

The motor has been together for 5 years, never had a problum with it before. It has 70-75# WOT and 30# low rpm hot.

Strange , I hear good things about the Wix race filters . The filters that i know are viable in a race application are the FL1-HP Motorcraft and the Jomar filters . If/when you have an issue with these filters I'd have to look at the oil or fuel you use .

I have used Wix Racing Filters for years. They are a step above a std filter. The 51515-R is the racing filter that fits a Ford. About $10 on overnight order from O'Reilly's

any chance alchohol / additives in the pump gas could be eating the filter material?

I had a 289 a few tears ago, fram filter, melted the plastic bypass valve. it partially plugged the oil passage into the block. I would be looking for restriction in passage.. good luck
