Mustang rear/trunk mounted radiator?

Anyone have any experience with a radiator setup like this?
With the 460 I'm trying to think of ways to lighten up the front end.
I have a MKIII fan and I'm thinking of running an electric water pump (or one of these bad boys: http://www.daviescraig.com.au/main/display.asp?pid=47)
Thoughts?

Some folks I know run a Willy's nostalgia car with the rad in the trunk. Its a SBC with a blower through the hood. They had good success with it. It was only a drag car, I'm not sure how long it would keep the engine cool due to the lack of air flow.

A rad full of water weighs quite a bit, getting that weight moved back sounds like a good idea.

wow, ive never seen anything like that. how much hose would you need? and what would you use, braided or something else? that is very interesting.

its very common for mud trucks to use rear mounted radiators so I think it would fine for 1/4 mile passes.

Most use 1 1/2" or 1 3/4" copper pipe with radiator hose to make the bends.

per NHRA the radiator cant be in the trunk. That said I see a bunch of the heads up guys with large water tanks in the rear instead of a radiator. They use a big pump to circulate water to the front, and actually they just circulate ice water through the heads. It works very well, but those guys also have a lot of time between rounds, I doubt it would work good on a bracket car, alky maybe, but still.

A while back when I first started mounting a new 'glass body on a friends car he wanted to put the radiator in the back to make room up front. But after he realized how much extra weight would be added to the car from the extra long water lines & associated extra water volume in the long lines he changed his mind (thank god).

This was the other reason I decided against it, a 5 gallon water tank and all the hose was gonna add a good bit of weight to the car. The cars with the tanks I spoke of also run those big Prochargers that use the reverse mounted belt drive deal so there is no room for the radiator anyway........

I was thinking about putting a radiator in the bed of my 61 F100 Unibody truck. Either in the floor or in the tailgate. I'd think some PVC or thin galvanized conduit would work for plumbing...Or get fancy and run it through some existing frame connectors or framerail tubing.

Your right. Any liquid other then fuel or water for a intercooler that is located behind the engine firewall is considered loose ballast and is therefore illegal.

No liquid except fuel and water for the intercooler behind the firewall? What about the guys with dry sump oil systems that put the big tank in the trunk? The rule book does state that the radiator must be located in the stock location.

All cooling systems/radiators must be installed in the stock location for body style used...............yada yada yada.

Again these are all desert trucks and such, per NHRA a "radiator" is not legal to mount in the rear. A "water tank" is.

This is a unit I took a pic of when I was up at MDRC last week, they use this for the intercooler and the heads, they even use a bilge pump and lid from a boat.
