I just heard that this past weekend they wrecked 17-18 cars in the shutdown area. Supposedly the concrete is a smooth finish in the shut down and people can't get stopped. Also due to the fact that the track is only a 660' track but the score boards are at 1,200'. So people have been running all the way to 1200' then not being able to stop.

Supposedly they are having the track diamond ground this week to fix the surface, so cars can stop.

They are having some problems in the shut down area. I was in Oklahoma this weekend and did not get to attend. My understanding is that some cars were running well past the finish line guess they don't know what those big cones are at 1/8 mile.there were some very good racers there having problems as well. I heard Big Block Bob , Bobby and Derick Anthony were pretty loose and Tarence Plunkett act wrecked I know they are both very good drivers. They are grinding the the track from the 1/8 mile down to add texture to the track.I'm not sure what they will do for people who can't see the cones. My car should be ready tomorrow. was hopeing to get a few hits before the race this weekend but the weather looks bad all the way thru Sat. They are working hard on the track I think they will get it fixed. Ward

As much as I want to race I think it is the best call.If they got the track 100% it would be a mess trying to get parking. Maybe they will get a date where more board members can attend . Ward

Yes the track was super slick. We waited until around 3 pm to attempt a pass so the other guys could get plenty of rubber on the track. We decided to do a "Kiss" pass, "keep it simple stupid" because it was ovious the track was slick but things did not work out to well even for that. We left hard and run to a 5.27 pass on the motor with lowered rpm's but as soon as Derek crossed the finished and lifted and the engine started to holding back the rear tires broke loose and the ride was on, can you say frozen pond. She drifted right toward the guard rail but Derek turned left and the car came back to the middle of the lane then started going end for end down the middle of the right lane. I know that he did at least two (2) complete loops but some that saw the film of the accident said three (3) complete loops but thank goodness the car came to a stop in the middle of the right lane facing 90 degrees to the lane, luckly the other guy was so far behind he was able to stay out of the way. We was at the track from 2 pm to 7:45 pm and was witness to six (6) accidents in the shut down area but thank goodness only minor damage and NO injuries. After I left for home one of the Pro Mod racers hit the wall about 60 feet off the starting line making the total number of wrecks for the day to be seven (7) after that they cancelled the event and made the tickets good for the next Pro Mod event in April. The re-surfacing of the shut down area of the track is now complete so the track is ready but with all the rain we have had there is no way the parking area for the spectators is going to hold up. I suspect we are at least 2-3 weeks from trying another event of any kind. As for us we are so thankful to get home with only a busted wheelie bar wheel, broken in half when the car got up on two wheels doing end to end swaping. We can't wait to get things dryed out and get back to the track what a wonderful faculity they have at I-22 and Greg and his dad Jerry are life time racers so they know what they have to do to make things work.

I was talking to one of the Pro-mod owners and he believes they need to regrind the entire track. If you get out of the groove and it's just as slick as the shut down. Which he said the track is nice and wide and kinda gives you a false sense of security. I think they will get it worked out though.

We just can't believe that they didn't ask NHRA or IHRA on what type of surface finish they needed. I know NHRA prefers a brushed finish that runs the length of the track. They say if you do a brush finish width wise it causes tire shake. We learned when we built Battlefield that a smooth finish is not the way to go. After every rain, hot temperatures the rubber starts to bubble up.

We had simular problems at Battlefield with the asphalt in the shut down area. We ended up spraying the entire shutdown with VHT and everything was 100% better after that.

Bobby, what was your opinion of "Baby Huey" Dozier on the P.A.? I talked to him today and he is honestly trying to do a good job, IMO.

I thought the PA guy did 'OK" some of the time but was trying to "ham" things up to much. I think that he has been watching to much TV. He just needs to settle down and be himself and call it like he see it. Some of his stuff got pretty silly but at the same time some of it was "OK". I mean hey guys it was the first race the guys will get it together I am sure of that. As for the comment about grinding the whole track I totally agree. I am worried that once the shut down area is fixed, and it should be now, we will see people really turning their beast loose and as was stated and I know for a fact if you wonder 12-18" out of the groove you will be loose, if you are lucky you will keep the car off of the guard rail. I was really hoping that they would grind the whole track, end to end. I saw at least a dozen cars that drifted out of the groove and had to back of the throttle or risk going into the wall. Our car got out of the groove at about mid track but not far enough to lose it there it waited to the shut down area to show off. The guys did talk to professinal track prep people, Greg told me who they were but I can't remember. The track was done exactly the way they were told to do it but I have to admit as soon as I seen it shinning like a mirror in the afternoon sun light I really had my doubts. We will know more soon if the weather will corporate just a little bit, looks like another wet Friday which probably means no racing again this weekend. Take care guys!!

Sounds like it was done the very same way Blue Mtn., Miss. was done. It too, is smooth rail to rail, end to end. They used truck and scraper tires dragged down the track along with spray after spray the complete length of track, still slick, and if you got out of the groove, even slightly, you either let off or you were gone. They should have at least broomed it from the launch pad on, but didnt, so its still slick, (with a torquey car) if you get out of the rubber down track now even after approx 5 yr. Some quick, low 4 second cars have run with zero problems but they had their feces together on setup and stayed in the rubber. I'd say, 6.40 and on cars dont, (and didnt) have a problem at all. T&T, (street tires etc.) strips more rubber off and brings more dirt on the track than it helps. IMO.
