Now that this thing is drivable, I figured I'd throw some info up on it for anyone interested...

Obviously the 79 grille was swapped out for a 76' grille. Tires are 44"/19.5"/16.5" TSL Boggers, and wheels are chrome steel Barts 16.5"/14" that were widened to 20". Suspension lift is about 18", with another 3" of body lift...

Shameless plug for my dad's shop - this paint job is nearly 10 years old now and has seen dozens of trips to the mud hole and still looks brand new. The body was done basecoat/clearcoat, and the entire underside was sprayed single stage. Virtually every single piece on the truck has been painted, both underneath and on top...

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/greenbroncoguy/0222090810.jpg

The step bars were also hand fabricated, as were both bumpers...

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/greenbroncoguy/0222090810c.jpg

The front end is a 2.5ton Eaton axle with 6.16 cogs, welded spider gears, and hydraulic steering. With this steering you can turn these tires at idle at a dead stop. The brakes on the axle were also removed to save weight, and replaced with a single drive line brake that is installed on the transfer case(Rockwell 223).

Rear end in another 2.5ton Eaton; again, with 6.16 cogs, welded spiders and removed brakes. Even with only on 12" drive line brake, this thing will lock up all 4 tires no problem. There is a custom fabricated aluminum fuel cell with dual -10 outlets for the main pump, and a -8 outlet for the NOS pump.

Here you can see the adjustable stops for the rear - this basically keeps the rear end from dropping when the weight comes up for the sled, and they are also removable to allow some flex(as much as you could expect from as much arch as we have) if we want to take it to the mud hole. There's also a custom pulling hitch that puts the load of the sled forward of the rear axle...

Engine specs;

-A460 Block
-Sonny Bryant 4.5" Billet crank
-BME Aluminum rods - 6.7" IIRC
-Ross forged dome pistons - fitted to heads
-Old style Motorsport A460 heads/Intake - ports have been matched to heads and the inside has been extensively blended. The heads and intake were sent somewhere in California to have them all flowed together a few years ago...
-1250 Dommy
-Lunati Solid roller cam designed by Lunati for pulling
-Crower Steel rockers w/ girdle
-Copper head gaskets
-~15.5:1 compression
-MSD Pro Billet dizzy
-Ford Racing 9mm plug wires
-NGK V-power plugs
-MSD 6A-l box, MSD timing retard on the way for running NOS
-Teflon bearings
-Timing now at 15dg initial, 36deg total all in by 3500. Will pull about 8dg out when running NOS

Headers were custom build, and have 2.25" tubes/6" collectors, after fabrication they were ceramic coated. Exhaust sounds bad ***, as you can imagine

Custom driveshaft loops, and check out how big the rear pumpkin is...

Finally, both axles were 4-linked to keep axle wrap under control. Coil overs are probably in the future, as we had some fairly bad bouncing issues to deal with this last time out. The back looked to be pretty stable, but the front had some bounce and that caused the short bronco to basically tetter-totter so we didn't do so hot. But at least nothing broke. Videos of the first time out pulling the sled with the new setup can be found at the link below;

beautifull rig! I own a 79 bronc also... but no where NEAR what this rig is... those eaton axles look like 9 inchers on steroids! (at first glance I was thinkin there is no way in the world this guy is running a 600 inch motor, 44s on 1/2 ton axles)

I wanna do a grill swap... cool look!

Very cool:cool::cool::cool:
My brother had a couple different Bronco's with 460's in them... Those things would go just about anywhere you pointed the front end...

Thanks for the comments guys. The front end swap is not really my cup of tea, but my dad likes it and after all it is his truck:p. I have a 79 as well, but it has been under construction for a few years now, and I just pulled the 466 today to ship to someone. It was the first motor I ever built and I never got to see it pull the sled:(.

That is one sick bronco!! Theres alot of guys that want huge trucks but don't bother getting the power to back it up, this one does that and much more!!

Why did you go that wide of a rim? Does it work better for pulling?

Nice Bronco! I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. I couldnt help but wonder about what tranny your using in it and who built it?

If that is the stock frame, what headers are those and what size are the primaries on them? That thing sounds wicked. I will be using Motorsports A460s for a 79 F-250 build in the very near future and I like the way they clear the frame and point down at that angle. The only nice non custum headers I have found are Schoenfeld Header uprights or the BBC ones for an IMCA modified, but I dont think the IMCA header primaries are big enough.

And finally, what ps pump do you use to run your hydro steering? I am currently using a KRC pump, but im not sure how i'm going to mount it when I switch to the BB and the a460 heads. Thanks a lot, Dave.

The tranny is a built C6 - pretty much everything you can do to one except rollerize it...

The truck is on a stock frame, and we made the headers. The primaries are 2.25" with 6" collectors. The heads have BBC exhaust ports. If you like these, you are going to have to build you a set:D

I believe the PS pump is a new stock one from Ford - was off of a 67 tbird IIRC. We had to custom make a mounting plate to mount it on, so that will have to be custom as well unless you can find one aftermarket...

Thanks for the info. I figured the headers were custom, after looking closer at them closer I could see some seams were they were put together. Very nice ride! You wouldn't happen to have any video of it in the mud would you? Thanks, Dave.

Thanks for the comments - we used to take it in the mud when we had the 466, but haven't stuck it in a hole for a while:D. As soon as we get it set up for pulling, we are going to start playing with it in the mud...
