Hello all,
This is my work in progress. It started out 12+ years ago as a 1964 fairlane sedan with more rust than metal. Dug it out of the ground and draged it onto the trailer for its trip home.
http://scottstrainphoto.smugmug.com/photos/375881868_WGE36-M.jpg
I finally got to start the build up. It now has a 2x3 full frame with 12+ roll cage and a mustangII style front suspension.
http://scottstrainphoto.smugmug.com/photos/394957684_P6iCV-M.jpg
The rear end is a ford 9" with a N case, 3.89 gears and a 31spline locker with coilovers with ladder bars.
http://scottstrainphoto.smugmug.com/photos/365515734_YYdDs-M.jpg
The interior is nearly complete with exception of the paint, headliner, seat mounted and some cosmetic stuff.

As for the engine.....what else ...all American 545 BBF
Right now it just a mocked up shell sitting it the mounts just waiting to be finished. Its future specs will be:
d9 block 30 over with distributor oil mods.
TFS street/strip heads with a good clean up only
piston with 22cc dish for about 11.5 to 1 comp
forged steel 4340 crank in the 4.500 stoke
set of 6.800 H beam rods
victor intake matched to heads
1050 dominator carb set to run E85
cam in the area of .680" lift
hand built headers with 2 1/8" primaries with 3.5" collectors

http://scottstrainphoto.smugmug.com/photos/471238884_f4iE8-M.jpg
And this is how it looks as of today. Still a ton of work todo (cash needed) but keeps me out of trouble!!!

Great looking project! Can't wait to see more. Did you fab the frame rails or are they from a kit? Looks nice.

The frame rails were hand designed and built by me with losts of blood, sweat and swearing!!! They are 2x3 0.10 mild steel and the cage is 1 3/4" mild steel. As for the look I'm going for...Its more of a wilder t-bolt that has a cowl scoop that runs all the way back to the windsheild and will sit lower to the ground. It will have NO exterior chrome for that sleeker, fast look.

man you do some nice work.the headers you made was it a weld together kit or something else?

probolt
03-03-2009, 07:25 AM
The headers were a fun. I first started with some Fabshop 3/8" thick flanges for TFS street heads and then purchased a 2 1/8" scrap kit from Stahl and a collector set from Dynatech. The smartest thing I did was purchase a cheap but good band saw and the best i could get blade for it! i must have made a 100 cuts.

All thts left to do to them is send them out for coating.

I just finished a 64 T-Bolt. I went more stock, with all the Crites parts. I am running a 466 engine with a C-6 trans. Looking forward to spring, so I can get it out and start having fun.

Yes
I stretched the rear openings 4" forward and moved thre rear back 1" to better fill the opening, so now the whell base is 116.5". It will fit 32" tall tires with no problem.

Hey T-bolt
I have 64 fairlane and noticed your dash in the pics you have posted. I have the stock cluster in mine where did you get your dash looks nice. Aaron

Aaron
Made the dash from a piece 1/4" lexan and a low flame. heat it a little, bend a little.
Formed it to the inner curve of the dash then cut the it to hold all the gauges and switches.

Sat down the other day and tried to remove the trans. It could not be done with the trans tunnel as it was. No wiggle room to move the trans back or up for installation. Needs to be larger and removable!! First order of business was to figure out how big. Wanted to be able to get to all the trans to engine bolts from the inside.
http://scottstrainphoto.smugmug.com/photos/525791778_hidjg-M.jpg
Now i can get to all fastners, oil cooler fittings and be able to install a dipstick. next i needed to build a frame.
http://scottstrainphoto.smugmug.com/photos/522906077_x3Dvs-M.jpg
Then to build a cardboard templet for the .025 aluminum to cover it.
http://scottstrainphoto.smugmug.com/photos/525791788_Cnveg-M.jpg
Got the cover bent and all the dzus fasteners install, It looks like it might just fit the need.
http://scottstrainphoto.smugmug.com/photos/525791794_nTeSu-M.jpg
Got the frame bolted to the floor and firewall. It was then time to see the cover in the car. looks great. Reinstalled the shifter and cables. Now It will be much easier to do trans work in the future!!! yeh!!!

Well i ordered the hood from US Bdody last month and It should be here soon so i thought i had better get to work on the scoop.
i'm going to mold my own design. It will be 5.5"tall and 20" wide and run all the way from the tip of the hood all the back to the windshield.
http://scottstrainphoto.smugmug.com/photos/564831324_FPCMd-M.jpg
Heres the roughed in scoop made out of MDF lumber in it first sanding stage.
http://scottstrainphoto.smugmug.com/photos/564831423_DWCoq-M.jpg
The airfilter and lid will be in the scoop and lower plate will be on the carb and will mate up when closed.
http://scottstrainphoto.smugmug.com/photos/564831414_qytQR-M.jpg
First of many muddings, then sanding, then more mud and more sanding, then some sealer, then gelcoat, more sanding then polishing....and hopefully it will be time to make the mold!!!!!

I think it will be killer.....do you know how bad fiberglass resin stinks.....how not fun it is to work with....the things we do to be different!!!!!
