Heres a pic of my street/strip truck. http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/uu234/501ranger/rangeredgewater2.jpg[/IMG]
It started out with a stock shortblock 429, Dove heads, Lunati special purpose solid flat tappet cam stealth intake, 850 double pumper, 2500 rpm convertor, 3.55 gears, 26" tall Et. Street Tires, stock exhaust manifolds and 2.5" turbo mufflers.
At that point it ran 12.4 @ 108 MPH.

I wanted more, so I built a 501 stroker. Forged pistons, cast crank, 9.5 compression. All other engine components reused. At this point I replaced the stock leaf springs with ladder bars, coil overs, and added roll bar. Through the mufflers it ran 12.27 @ 109.5 MPH. I installed exhaust cutouts and the et dropped to 12.03 @ 111.5 MPH.

I knew the exhaust manifolds were killing power, so the last race last year I installed the engine and transmission in a mustang with a set of 1 3/4" headers. The truck and the mustang both weighed 3200 pounds. The mustang ran 11.4 @ 118MPH with a identical sixty foot. Seeing that, I decided to make a set of headers over the winter.

Over the winter I got a good deal on a used set of Edlebrock Victor heads. So now it is back together with the 501, Victor heads, 9.5 compression ratio, a comp. cams extreme energy 280 roller cam with 242/248 degrees @ .050 , 3600 convertor, 28" tall et streets, 4.10 gears, 850 double pumper, torquer II intake. Race track isn't open yet, so I don't know how fast this setup is.

I just got back from the dragstrip, testing the new combination. I had a slight transmission problem. When I tried to manually shift to second gear, it wouldn't shift in time and the engine hit the rev limiter. So, I had to leave the c6 in drive, and it ran a best of 7.013 @ 98.09 mph in the 1/8 mile and 11.055 @ 121 mph.

Transmission was a stock rebuild by a local transmission shop:(. It shifted ok in the pits, but couldn't shift fast enough going down the track.

How did I miss this thread?!?!? Post pics of your truck!

I wish I could post more pictures, but I dont have a digital camera. Bigblockranger, Are you planing on installing a roll bar in your truck? If so do you think you have room for the front bars to attach to the frame? It looks like your headers are right were my roll bar attaches to the frame outrigger. My headers are tucked againsted the frame, but the tires touch the headers when the steering is turned all the way.

Yes a bar is planned. If you ever have get a camera, I would love to have pics of yours and how it is installed. I figured I'd just let the chassis guy figure out how to attach it to the frame. :)

:DI found a short video of a burnout from last year when it ran low twelve's. Its not the best burnout since there wasn't much water in the burnout box.:(

Looks good! What size tires are you running on the rear?

I have a set of 275 60 r15 Et Street Radials that I used last year and I currently used on the street. But now at the track I am using 28x12.5x15 Et Street tires. When I installed the Ladder bars I move the wheel tubs several inches, so they are even with the frame rail, and narrowed the rearend 3 inches on each side. With the 28x12.5x15 tires on the first race this year track prep, tuning, and transmission issues prevented me from the most out of the combination. The best sixty foot et so far is 1.54:), with minimal tire spin.

that's awesome. I'm a huge fan of 83-92 ranger's and 84-90 Bronco II's. Any pics of how you managed to cram that bad boy in there?

Looks great! If you get time and a camera, how about some pics of that roll cage. I'm looking to cage my 89 ranger.

Oh, and time to put at least a street/stip valve body in that c6.

It ran 11.002 at 121.8 still leaving the transmission in drive:D. I know it has more in it since it has a surge in first gear that seems to be fuel related. I put a fuel gauge on it and it had 8.5 pounds of fuel pressure at full throttle. I think it might need jet extensions, but my brother has a mustang that runs 10.15 @ 134Mph without jet extensions. Any ideas what would cause the surge in first gear?

I have an 86 ranger with a 466 in it I would be interested to see your installation I know of bigbockrangers install . I would like to see yours also our setup is similar other than your engine . I have 28x10.5x15 mt et drags ,narrowed 9 inch , coil-overs in the back with 4.11 gears . How did you mount the engine . I used hockey pucks to get a 1 inch body lift , moved tranny x-member to forward holes and made solid mounts with 3/16 x 1/4 inch flat stock and and small pieces of 11 gauge wall 1 1/2 inch square tubing . The oil filter adapter sits 1/4 of an inch away from the steering box . I will post some pics of mine later today hopefully . My ranger needs some body work but ran 12.42 last year . I am making a ton of changes to my combo within next couple weeks , hope to get high tens to low elevens .

My firewall was modified so the engine could be set back. If you look at the pictures, the carb is almost against the firewall. My dad modified the firewall over twelve years ago to make room for a stock 460. He drove it daily and used it to pull a car trailor until the Ohio Emissions check came. Since it wouldn't pass E-Check, my dad parked it. Several years ago E-check ended, so I decided to get it running for bracket racing and limited street use. The motor mounts are homemade solid mounts.

Thanks for the pics I didnt get take pics of mine today . I was working on a friends car , he took it to one of his cowrkers to have it tubbed and the guy did half the job then shoved it out of his garage . The guy did a real nice frame but cobbled the rast of **** he did , a good chance to make a little cash while on layoff ! I noticed your carb is on backwards what is the reason for that ? My firwall is still stock location but enine still seems to have enough setback , I dont have headers on mine yet been trying to find off the shelf headres that come close to fitting with the least mods think I found the ones . Speedway Motors has ones for 67-69 BB camaro , all the tubes look to be in the right locations should be able to just put on bbf flanges . I think speedway makes thier own headers so they might build a set that way for me I dont know yet . I was plagued by tranny problems last year I found out the stock C-6 doesnt like slicks and discount converters dont work for traction . I got my use out of it in that configuration though I built it 5 years ago and raced on street tires the whole time , not bad for 150 dollar rebuild kit . I will definitly get pics tomorrow ran out gas in my welder so have to wait till my buddy gets off work so he can pay for more .

Gotta pull tranny out and rebuild it before the 4th of april . Track opens on the fourth !!! I will post times probly wont be great at first I have changed so much over this winter I will have to feel it out .

Since the carb. is so close to the firewall, the throttle cable was in a bind when the carb. was on the correct way.

That makes sense . I really want to be able to post som pics of mine but I cant figure out how I sent a messae to the webmaster to figure out how . I dont have url's for my pics .

You need to upload the pics to a host like photobucket or tinypic.com. I like tinypic becasue you do not have to sign up or register. Just upload and copy and paste the url to your post. Start a new thread for your truck.

I started a new thread with some pics of mine from last year . I wanted to get some new pics but it started snowing today and the tranny is blown up so I would have to push it in and out of the garage .

I have about a thousand parts from TCI to put in it ! Gonna pull it out and rebuild it on my back porch .

Just ran 6.855 at 99.42 in the 1/8 and 10.95 @ 115.97 lifting before the finish line. It should have been about 10.80 if I would have made a full pass:D Still leaving it in drive.

Just wanted to say your build sounds awesome. Just bought a backhalved 88 Ranger a few weeks ago so we are about to start building that ourselves to put a BBF into. We are going to try and run a 7.00 headsup class at the track that is really close to us because our mustang runs in the 6.20's and is really hard to slow down enough to keep running the class. Since you Ranger guys seem to really know your stuff would it be a direct swap to put the round front end from say a 98 or 99 Ranger onto our 88? We like the rounded fronts better than the older style flat fronts but we have no clue how hard a swap this would be. Thanks for any information.

No they are not a direct swap. There are fiberglass conversion front ends for older Rangers though. They are mainly for off road trucks but might be usable on a drag truck.

Thanks we were just thinking about that tonight at the track. Here is the only pic so far of the truck that we bought. It isn't much but we bought another ranger before that was just pretty much the body so this will take alot let work.

I actually live in Cleves Ohio, which is just outside Cincinnati. I live real close to Edgewater Drag strip and a couple miles away from Gravelrama hill climb. I am also racing in the outlaw street car madness at Kilkare.

Just installed a C4 with manual valve body and 3500 tci convertor. Launching at 2000rpm, I ran 10.89 @ 122.3 Mph through 3inch Magnaflo mufflers on 30"x12.5" et streets. :D
