Gathering parts to put the 460 in my 88 Notch and would like your thoughts on what alt you are using and how you are mounting them. Using motor mounts and not a motor plate. Needs to me budget minded. I`ve heard of using a mount from a truck motor. I don`t have time to go searching through the salvage yrds for one. And seen pics of people using turn buckels.
Any thoughts ?
Ideas ?
Is there an aftermarket supplier of these?
May be some one has one for sale on here.
Let me know.
Thanks.

I'm running the mega amp monster poowermaster. I think its like 200 amps. For electric fans, electric water pump, nos system, bottle warmer. G3 style. I slung it low on the passenger's side. Grade 8 bolt straight into the block under front on passenger head with a spacer to get it lined up with the crank pulley. Off of the timing cover I have a 3" threaded rod with a pair of nuts on it and a simple crecent moon shaped alternator bracket with an adjutment slot that runs from the timing cover rod under the alternator to set tension. The v belt is only 30" so its nice and short.

This is in a '69. I don't know if you can hang it there on a foxbody or not.

The low mount works on a foxbody what I used in the one I had . I use a powermaster 140 amp one wire Listed as replacement for 79-86 mustang . The first one I got took a **** after 2 weeks , they replaced it and have had this one for 2 years now . :)

In my small truck with rack and pinion steering, I used a GM one-wire alternator drilling the mount out to Ford bolt size then upgraded it with a 100 amp rebuild kit from Summit for $35. My motor is mounted with a motor plate so I hung it bottom-passenger side. I used a bracket from a Continental, then fabriacated a support started from the waterpump. To be different I used a pulley from a 5.0 Continental flat belt 6 groove waterpump. The hole needs to be drilled out to 3/4". A 5.0 crank pulley spaced out 3/8" (for a motor plate) fits and has run long and hard.

All great ideas.

I`ll be running an electric wp, fan, MSD 6AL, T-brake, NOS and the lights since it`s a street car.

I`m going with a 140 amp.

Do any of ya have any pics ?

hello guys
here Is how i mounted my alternator low and out of the way.
Its a 3g 130amp out of a Tauras with the tabs on top not the ends.
Mounts to the front plate with a bracket from 1/2" aluminum and a slot of about 1.5" long for adjustment. lines of perfect with a single groove crank pulley. i don't know how much room you have below the plate to mount but if you have about 8" you should have plenty of room.

I have a 460 mounted with a motor plate. I purchased a single wire Super Mini Denso and mounted it using the threaded hole in the block, passenger side, down low just above the oil pan. I needed a 6 inch spacer and 7.5 inch bolt for that application, and then purchased an offset aluminum bracket, which I attached to one of the water pump bolts, using a spacer to align the bracket to the alternator. This allowed me to mount the alternator without drilling any holes in my motor plate. I got the alternator and aluminum bracket from GZ Motor Sports in California, 209-296-3793. I'll take some photos and try to post them as they will give you a clear picture of the mounting. Not sure if I will be successful attaching pictures as I am new to the forum.

4thhorseman,

I ran my alt like yours and had an issue throwing belts. I added a brace from ther top pivot bolt to a boss on the water pump and now the alt is nice and sturdy.

Just a thought....

March makes a nice kit for $111 in Jegs. Got one works good. Had to modify a tad to work with a elec. water pump.
