brain@fbracing 05-24-2009, 03:09 PM Finally got the majority of the fabrication work completed!!!
We race in the UK Street eliminator championship- the cars are fully street legal and race in street trim- Pump fuel, treaded tyres & mufflers etc.
The new motor is an all aluminium 598ci
11.2" deck C&C block 4.6" bore
4.5" stroke Bryant billet crank
7.5" BME 426 aluminium rods
11-1 compression
New style A460 heads
A460 tunnel ram with 2 x 1050 dominators
Custom solid roller nitrous cam
Custom Wizards of NOS progressive nitrous system
5 stage dry sump with custom pan
We went with the 11.2" block for two reasons:
1/ Allows room for possible future growth.
2/ Gave us more room for a reverse dome piston to get the compression down and have better ring placement, without having to use a 6.7" rod in the 10.3" block (couldn't physically use a 6.8" rod with the dish)
All the parts are now here bar the pistons, which are due in the next couple of weeks............then we can get this bad boy built.

brain@fbracing 08-24-2009, 07:10 PM We finally had our first passes at the weekend.
First pass was a 1/2 track check out/ring bedding pass, netted a 10.79
which we thought was suprisingly quick!
second pass was a tyre smoking full 1/4, 9.55 at a rapid 155mph! That's an N/A pb for us and we smoked the tyres!!!!
I made some shock adjustments, added a retard ramp to the launch
and we had another go...................8.95 @ 149 mph!!!!! that's over a second quicker than our old 545 went N/A! I was speechless!
First round of eliminations.
Time to introduce the 598 to Mr Nitrous. 160hp with a soft build and 6 degrees of retard.............8.52 @160mph!!
Semi finals.
300 hp jets 12 degress retard and a longer build time.....8.56 @ 165mph. We were just too conservative and it killed the 330 ft time.
I think we now have a solid base line to work with, our next meeting is in three weeks and it will be the best track of the year!
We will be trying very hard to break the 7 second barrier.............
Watch this space,
Brain.

brain@fbracing 09-17-2009, 05:56 PM We ran at the Santa Pod Euro Finals last Weekend.
The motor only had 4 passes on it, so we decided to do a little N/A tuning before opening the bottles...........the result was a huge improvement from 8.95 to 8.66 in three passes! Our previous non nitrous PB has been blown into orbit!
The first nitrous pass was 300hp with a 0.4s delay ramped in from 30% to 100% over 1 second. The result was a PB 8.16 @ 171mph!!
The following day we stepped up to 400hp but the track just wasn't there and we ran an 8.17 @171mph and an 8.19 @ 171 mph in the dark. The road cruise was, as usual, a breeze, although Ian (the FB 'coupe owner/driver did manage to record 1.5g acceleration with a short stab of the throttle leaving the fuel stop!
Sunday dawned cool and cloudy, leaving some doubt as to how much power the track would take, but being No3 qualifier gave us a much slower car in round 1. We decided to let 'er rip, with enough time in hand to recover if we smoked the tyres................
The result was.........7.97 @ 173mph!!!! we've done it!!! We are the 6th car in europe to run in the 7s in FULL street trim and the first non ProMod motored nitrous car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!
Pictures and video.................

windsor 09-17-2009, 06:13 PM Good job guys! Way to represent. So was there some street cruising involved in this event? It wasn't really clear by your post.
Check out www.429-460.com too

Yep, a street cruise is part of qualifying. the one at Santa Pod is around 18-19 miles where as the Shakespeare County one is 27-28 miles. there is a stop off at a gas station where you have to add a minimum of £10 of unleaded and also a "hot start" test about 2/3 of the way round. If you don't complete the cruise, you don't qualify.....

windsor 09-18-2009, 02:49 AM Oh man, that is awesome. Very cool pic indeed... Which tranny you running? If it's an auto, which stall?
You should bring that thing over to run Drag Week next year! Need more Ford representation :D

We are running a 'glide with JW case & ultrabell, straight cut planetaries etc.....
The converter is a Neal Chance bolt-together Promod converter.
We launch @ 4000rpm but it will stall at about 4500.
We did come and race on your side of the pond in 2005..unfortunately the state of the economy makes it unlikely we'll ever get to do it again!
Cheers,
Brain.
billandlori 09-18-2009, 01:01 PM Congratulations guys!!
That is a bad hot rod.
Did you guys build the chassis? Looks very stong.
Bill
brain@fbracing 09-18-2009, 02:51 PM Yes, the car is completely home built.
I built the chassis, engine and trans. Ian, the owner/driver did all the 'glass panel work. Very little of the body is "stock" '34. The rear arches have been raised by about 3" to get it lower and the front wings have been extended to stop the air getting underneath it.
I'm sure that without these mods it would have been an aeroplane by now!
The only pro built parts are the axle case and the converter!
Cheers,
Brain.

Wow, nice work to both of you!! It still kinda looks like a '34!! lol
That is a cool class where you have to drive then race. Do you have any emission crap to deal with over there like we have?
Bill
brain@fbracing 09-18-2009, 03:56 PM Emissions regulations, like yours are being tightened all the time.
However there are "loopholes" that can be exploited!
This car has been road legal for 15 years. It has had two chassis and several different (460 based) engines over this time but it's still the same car, right?
If you build a "new" car now it has to comply with the latest emission regs, but "old" cars get by with a visual smoke test.............

Thats cool. Over here we have to get e-tests done every two years until the car is 25 years old. I just buy stuff older than that!!
There was a deal here that if you put in an engine that wasn't available from the factory you could just do a sniffer test to '79 standards. They called it a "Hot Rod" allowance. I actually had to get a letter from Ford that an '85 Mustang didn't come with a 460!!

black88coupe 10-09-2009, 03:16 PM TOTAL insanity!!!!
brain@fbracing 10-11-2009, 07:00 AM We ran another BP at our last meeting of the year......7.80 @ 174mph!
It was done without adding anymore power, I made a small 4-link and damping change to calm the launch a little and the rest came from fixing a nitrous activation problem....
There is a HUGE amount left to come from this combo, I think we may even run out of chassis next year(7.50 tag)!
Video of the 7.80:
