i posted this in engine tech section also.....thought i would put it here too...need all the help i can get.......

I asked this question on another site and recieved some good suggestions.....so i wanted to ask here too.
My truck is a 2004 f-150 ext cab 4x4 4.6..... I plan on swaping in a big block 460....why u ask?? Lol.....well i already have the engine and a good friend of mine will be building it....the motor should be pushing around 750hp....the truck will also be lifted and on 38x15.5x20 tires....my main concerns are motor mounts, headers, clearance and strengh of the frame itself....if any of you know a project like this or have any suggestions i would really like to hear your input....this project is still just in the planning stages but i really hope it can be done without having to customize everything!!!!.......thanks for your help....kenny

I would be more worried about your tranny and axles being able to hold up to those tires and horsepower.

I'm doing a similar swap with a 514 into at 1998 F-150 4.6L.First I used the L&L swap kit, then I had to make my own engine mounts as no matter which ones I tried they created more problems. I had clearenance trouble with my headers and the right side frame (passanger side), also the steering linkage interferes with the headers. I modified my tranny crossmember tha accommadate the C6. Hope this sheds some light.

Hey man sounds like a really cool build.i am building a 97 f-150(460,c6,np205,9" rear 5.13's detroit locker supior axles,Dana 44 front 5.13's deteoit truetrac supior axles and joints, all custom suspention on 44" boggers). The build is going really good except the headers I plan on building my own set of fenderwell headers.I have done some looking and speedwaymotors has a good kit for around $150.00.

Good luck on your project keep us updated

the 9"/D44 should last about 30 seconds with 44" boggers

sounds like a fun build.. you could box the frame? i got a buddy with a 96 f-150 with a 460 in it.. he used solid motor mounts and stock transmission mounts for now in the back.. he went with dana 60's front and rear. hes spinning 44 inch boggers...

but he took off everything and boxed the frame and he said that he would wouldnt have done it any other way..

his 460 isnt pushing 750 hp though.. only like 550 600 ish?

(460,c6,np205,9" rear 5.13's detroit locker supior axles,Dana 44 front 5.13's deteoit truetrac supior axles and joints, all custom suspention on 44" boggers).

If your going through the trouble if swapping in new axles... might as well go with a set that has a *chance* at living... like a Sterling 10.25 rear and Dana 60 front... I think you will be highly disapointed with 1/2 ton axles and tires that large...

the 9in will live, but the 44 will have to go for sure.they've used the 9in in top fuel & funnycar for years & they lived.pat
