Cale, might I suggest that you take an afternoon and a couple cold beverages and scan them into your hard drive... makes them easier to find/see/share and gives you a backup in case of tragedy. One of these days I am going to do the same thing... lol.

I have a bunch of them on disc... but I have to dig those out! You wouldn't believe the stuff laying around our house and shop from the stone age! It would take me a couple of weeks and pretty much killing a new scanner to get all of it done! I will definately put some more pics up as soon as I get a chance!

Thanks for the pictures...I still have a cleveland in my car. I thought about doing the port plates a few years ago but decided to just leave well enough alone and dial up.

Wow lots of great pics but what kind of et's were these early pro stockers running. Lots of RPM I bet...were the rules alot different back in the day as far as cubic inch and weight?

Cale Aronson
09-07-2009, 10:38 AM
I know my dad's Pro Stock stuff was around the same weight we run now but with crappy tire compounds, no shift light, no 2 step, early Lenco's (some with no Neutral), and my dad's fairmont had I believe at the last a 650" Kaase. Then he had a Mustang II and then an 88 T-Bird. He was running 7.40's at the last. They went from 8.10's in about 80' to that in about 87'.

Man, I really appreciate these old pictures. I've always been a Historian of the sport & I just love looking at the old photo's. My dad raced Factory Ford team back in the early 60's until he almost lost his life in an AFX Comet at Richmond Dragway.

Anybody have any pictures of Harold Dutton's Drag Hag?

Which one?

The legend himself gave alot of these pics to a guy in GA to scan for his GA dragracing hall of fame site.

Here are a few lightweight Fairlanes.

The odd man out Mustang... Absolutely gorgeous car thou.

http://www.georgiadragracing.com/images/GDR-00412.jpg

Althou still not credited by the NHRA to this day, Harold won the very first World Championship Series Pro Stock event in 1970 with this Maverick. It was a Division 2 Points race at Phenix City, AL. I think the NHRA classified these races as "outlaw" meets since the Pro Stock class wasn't going to be introuduced as a national event until 1971.

http://www.georgiadragracing.com/images/GDR-00413.jpg

I have another pic of the Maverick attached.

In 1971 or 1972 he had a Capri Pro Stock that I actually saw in person a few moths ago at his place. I think he going to restore it for the current owner but I'm not sure as Harold was kinda vauge about what he planned to do with the car. After that he had a square tube Mustang II for many, many years that Harold sold about 10yrs ago to a customer of dads. It was in the ownership of a total moron last I heard. I have some pics of the Mustang from the late 70's when he was match racing it, (I was a little kid standing next to it) but I'll have to find them at dads house.

Harold raced a Ford every season except part of 1968 when he and Ford had a small disagreement.... Chrysler was more than happy to have him in a Hemi Barracuda that year and in 1969 Ford was singing a different tune to get him back. To this day he will only drive a Ford.

I've known Harold my entire life. I can rember dad taking me over to his place in the late 70's thru early 80's. Kind of a grumpy but loveable guy. He never braggs about his accomplishments and usually willing to answer questions once he warms up to you (usually quickly if keep your mouth shut about "what you know" for a few mins). A truly great racer and ambassador for the sport and he's still got a race car or 2 laying around....
Will

Harold Dutton & Rich Hicks the new owner of this car.

I went to York 30 last year and asked Grumpy Jenkins why he and NHRA outlawed this car for having a tube chasis and you got credit the following year for doing the same thing old thing.Grumpy lived up to his name of course. He didn't like that this Capri of Harolds was running 174 mph and all the others were running in the 150s.NHRA told Dutton that you couldn't run a big Boss motor in that little car,so he got his entry back and raced outlaw tracks and events. The car is going for lettering and will be out this year with one of its motor combos it ran.
