Five0 09-05-2009, 04:39 PM Anybody running a mini spool on the street occasionally. I'm debating dropping one in my 8.8 so I will be ahead of the game when engine modifications proceed. Right now it's a relativly mild 466 in front of a C6 with my biggest concern concentrated on getting the car to hook up. I have a chance to get a spool cheap right now.
For the time being the car will spend the majority of the time at the track with only an occasional trip about 8 to 10 miles to the local car show on Saturday nights.
Thanks
tonyj202b 09-05-2009, 04:46 PM You will be fine with it,just won't want to turn or corner very well.
Five0 09-05-2009, 04:51 PM Thats what I figured. Should be a kick to get sideways with though. :D
Thanks

If you are buying axles & everything, why cheap out with a mini spool? I'd just buy a good full spool & forget about it. JMHO.
droppedf100 09-13-2009, 09:07 PM We run a mini spool in my dads truck with the stock 31 spline axles and c-clips and it seems to have alot of play from side to side. Anydody else have this problem with an 8.8?
jpierce55 09-15-2009, 11:59 AM even turning off the dragstrip sucked when I had a mini-spool.

Keep in mind, if you plan on running a Mini-Spool in an 8.8", you have to utilize an open style carrier, rather than a Posi unit. The mini-spool won't fit inside the Trac-Loc carrier.
I have a "like new" 31-spline open carrier sitting on the shelf if you need one? I'll let it go for cheap.
nuclearcobra 09-15-2009, 02:40 PM I ran a mini spool for years in my 302 powered cobra two and it was fine but your big block power now i would go with a full spool also and you dont have to worry about rippin the mini out of the carrier one day.
BBFmavrick 09-20-2009, 10:04 AM The mini is ok until you start applying alot of HP w/slicks. Then you have wasted your money IMO:rolleyes:

how about 400-450hp on the street with M/t 18" wide street tires, and about 2850lbs.

A mini spool is not for drag racing..............End of story.:o
blown473 10-25-2009, 05:24 PM Been running both mini spools and full spools on the street since 1979! YOU do get some resistance in the corners and you will feel them most when backing while turning. IT is definately posi though! Currently I run a 9 in. 350 gear with a full spool on the street in my blown f100. Using 10.5 m/ts works good!
goinpostal 10-26-2009, 10:22 AM My experience with a mini spool behind a big block was that it didn't survive one pass at the track.
It turned out the pin in the mini spool was sheared, but when the rear tires were off the ground it caught enough to act like it was fine. I spent entirely too much time and money chasing down the problem.
Spend the extra for the full spool. It's worth it for the peace of mind.
