F250 question

can anyone tell me why 1980 to 1987 F250 headers can't be put on a 74 to 79?

what is the width of the frame rails? is their a difference their? i have an 1977 f250 with a 460 (non-highboy) with the inside of the frame rails near the motor mounts at roughly 26 1/2 to 27 inches.

L&L products makes a set that will fit. fenderwell exit for 1967 -1979 f-250 and f-350 but they require a 3 inch body lift to clear the frame rails for the 1967-1976. And the ones they make for the 1978 and 1979 f-250 and f-350 require a 4 inch body lift to clear the frame rails. they changed the width of the frame rails in 1978. I had a set for a 1979 bronco that they make and ran for a year and then i changed to headmen hustler heads because L&L has 1 3/4 primary tubes and i need a 2 1/8 primary tube so i went with headman. summit sales them.

Thanks for the info I'm trying to duck payin $450 plus for headers. But, I guess I'm goin to have to bite the bullet and order a set of Maddogs.
I'd buy a used set but, nobody has any for sale.

......Till I order a NEW set that is.:D Then, 5 sets of headers will pop up in the classifieds.

79 back fords have the same width frame. In 77 1/2 and up on the 4wd's the rear of the frame is wider but not where the engine sits. The 80 up trucks have a wider frame in the front is why the older style headers don't fit them.

They will fit. Frame is the same. you can put Bronco-150 headers on a 250 But, not the other way around. Bronco-150 Coil bucket kills it.
