Hi guys. I had a C6 built for my slingshot dragster at the start of the year... only done 2 meetings and I now have problems.
For the first 2 meetings this year I had a dodgy shifter that was shifting itself from first to second on launch - so we brought a new shifter - installed it and took it to the races...
When we got there we found we had no reverse gear. To rule out shifter cable / positioning adjustment we manually put the car into reverse and still nothing. We spoke to a gearbox expert at the track and he said that running it as was would not cause any further damage so we ran with it...
First run and i shifted to 2nd and the car didnt seem to go in so i pulled for third. Figured i probably just didnt wait long enough for it to drop in. Had a couple of runs that seemed ok, seemed maybe like it took a while to drop into 2nd but that it was dropping in ok... Next day and 1st to 2nd shift no longer seemed to happen, I waited for it but hit the rev limiter. I spoke with the guy who built the trans and he said that burning out in 2nd could have damaged something to do with a one way clutch (my father spoke with him but i believe thats what he said). He said that this would explain the lack of reverse gear and also the difficulty getting it into 2nd.
I checked it out before the run, i could pull down into 1st, then into 2nd, burn out indeed felt like it was in 2nd, then back to 1st, launch, shift for 2nd - up onto the limiter, shift for 3rd and continues fine... after i have slowed down a bit pull back into 2nd and the box shifts down ok, shift to 1st and again it drops in ok.
