I run an old nash 4+1 in my stang now and it has seen its better days.
Looking to upgrade in the next year or 2 with room to grow.
Cant buy new so used will have to do.
Used it looks like Liberty equalizer is the most popular highend trans out there.
Its clutchless and that leads me to my question.

Has anyone used the clutch on the upshift on the L.E.?

I don't think you can upshift the Liberty EQ. if you get out of the throttle it pops out of gear. Most of the clutchless units do this: liberty, gforce, ect ect.

I don't know if using the clutch to up-shift a clutchless design would be the best idea.

They are designed to be shifted under constant load, and being under load is what really locks the face tooth gear design together. I know that the G-force will make a lot more gear "noise" sounding like it's trying to jump out of gear while going through the gears on the stands warming the engine. But shifting under load going down the track they are somewhat quieter & the gear engagement feels much more rock solid.

Both the "top shift" Liberty & G-Force will take up some decent tunnel room. The Liberty is wide on both sides, the G-force is wider to the driver side.

If it's track only look at a jerico DR4 with a slipper clutch. Steve

FAC: you should be able to UPshift the LE, and i never lift till the pass is over.

Dave : yea my nash is real clunky when its not loaded and sounds much better loaded beacause there is alot of play between the sliders and the dog ring teeth. I have made extra room when we built the removable tunnel with the LE in mind.

62: got my heart set on a liberty but thanks.

Steves: from what i understand the jerico will go to about 800hp and that leaves just a little room for me to grow.

Some of my findings when i asked about this at the track was you can clutch it but it will be a disadvantage, slower , more wear and tear on the clutch , more violent shifts (more wear),not able to set counterweights on clutch to optimal, and the big one for me :
With the more violent shift and big n/a hp it will probably break the 10.5 tire loose on the gear change and cause it harder to keep hooked up.

So when i get it i'll shift it like it was designed to do.
thanks to all replies...............Ron
