Hey guys First off I am new to the forum but am in need of some help.
I picked up a 1988 F250 with a 460 big block for near free,(350 bucks) knowing the tranny was fried but the 460 runs like new only has 163000 km on it not miles. ya im a canada boy. the tranny really isnt worth saving its been beat hard for months and no fluid at all was in it. here is my situation. i have been able to find a free C6 2wd transmission but the truck is 4wd. by the way the tranny is code K which from what I can find is a C6. i know i have to swap tail stocks and output shafts but is it realy that easy, keep in mind i have to completely disassemble both trannies to do it. if anyone has done this swap it would be much appreciated if you either had pics or a little more info for me and thanks to all that reply
on a side note i have always been a ford guy thats why i am doing a motor swap into a 1991 s15 jimmy. not a fan of the chev motors and i wanted big block power and you just cant beat a 460 for torque. so the jimmy will be getting all ford drive train. plus it is only a mud vehicle never going to be a road truck. once again any help would be appreciated

Go to Advance Auto Parts and buy the FORD automatic transmission manual and follow it step by step.

dont want to spend the money if i dont have to on a manual in canada they can get pricey for some reason. anybody done this swap before?

you basically have to completely tear down the transmission to replace the output shaft... at that point you could just as well rebuild the trans you have.

where are you located in canada?
no advanced auto here, but Canadian tire will have something for you to buy and follow. its money worth spending to avoid costing yourself a lot more money with a mistake.

I live in ontario Near Guelph little town called fergus i have a feeling im going to just get a haynes manual and maybe a rebuild kit from napa or APC i have a buddy that gets me good stuff cheap. thanks everyone that answered so far. hoping to actualy see a coverted tranny some where i havnt been able to find one yet, also im not to sure if the tranny is a c6 that is in the 1988 f250 the trans pan doesnt match a c6 but the colum shifter matches a c6 pattern. P-R-N-D-2-1 I will take pics of the tranny in the morning and post them and see what you experts think. im still a young gun when it comes down to it 21 years young but grew up working on cars since i was 8 so i would rather get my hands dirty then pay a shop to do somthing i can do myself thanks all also might see how much it would be to rebuild it and throw in a shift kit instead of swaping the c6 tails and output shafts but i would much rather have a c6 tranny as i eventually be stroking the 460 and the axles will most likely be dana 60 or equivalent i think the rear axle in the f250 is a 10.25 with 3.55 gears which makes me lean toward the c6 more, the trans coke is K and the axle code is C9 anybody know otherwise I could really use some help i have 3 projects on the go and its mind boggling what i have to remember but well worth it

It should be a C6 unless someone replaced it with something else. I have never heard of a C4 being installed in a F250.

thanks for that i think i have read up on it before and i have taken the pics of the tranny and yes it is a C6 i couldnt see the pan properly till i got all the mud off of it so it is a c6 with a bogwarner t-case behind it which i think im going to use the rear axle for my swap i also have a lead on some 39x11x16 tires for 500 bucks i am hoping to get the money soon so i can get them, the solid axle swap on the jimmy should give me about 15 inches of lift plus i think im going to do a body lift to help fit the big block into it without having to cut the firewall and floor to fit the c6 in there so i think i might do a 6 inch body lift so i might be looking at 21 inches of lift. wow that seems like a lot when i say it. here are some pics of the jimmy now and the ford witht hte 460 in it as well as the rear axle
ignore the date in the pics they are wrong stupid camera the were taken yesterday

so i have decided to go wild on this solid axle swap, i have found a set of lift leaf springs for 800 bucks for a ford f350. the lift is 24 inches in springs alone plus i figure with stock springs it would lift 12 inches over stock plus i will need to do a 3 inch body lift to fit the motor and trans properly so this thing is goiing to need an extension ladder to get into at 39 inches of lift aprrox.
what do you guys think am i a little crazy? plus the 39 inch tires so that would give another 5 or so inches over stock so 42 inches of lift

You lost me, how do you use the stock springs and the 24in lift springs?
Also, jmho but I think your asking for trouble putting a 39 inch lift on that short of wheel base.

hey wildman sorry about the confusion with stock f350 leafs it will lift it 12 inches over stock if i use the lift springs it will lift it 36 inches over stock and yes going that high will cause tons of trouble i will be using stock leafs with 35-39 inch tires and hopefully no body lift. i have however got the out put shafts swapped finally and it is incredibly easy, and i have never opened a tranny in my life. although a c6 is very good design. still looking for my front axle looking for a dana 60, i found a set of dana 60s off a military truck with closed knuckles but havent heard back from the guy yet so hopefuly he still has them. but i will be walking trough a couple junk yards to find a good front axle as well.
