Mud Freak 10-21-2009, 11:00 PM Kick *** vid!! Looks like you had a wicked season judging by all the placings!! Nice work. What can you tell us about the motor/trans setup?
would you be able to send me a bunch of pics on the flip forward hood setup?

Mud Freak 10-22-2009, 10:48 AM Wow, thanks alot McQ!! I wasn't expecting something that well done, but that definitly will give me a good idea on how to tackle this project. Mine will be abit different since I have my batteries and rad in the box, I'd like to gut the rad support/inner fenders, so that will add a new challenge.
Sounds like you'll have it a little easier with no front radiator or batteries. Shouldn't take too long at all.
I've noticed you run very well in the water. If I may ask, what are you doing to keep from mis-firing?

I've had to do a few different things. I always wrap the dizzy with a thick plastic bag and tape it up real good to keep the moisture away. I run a K&N foam prefilter which keeps the thick stuff off, and the engine bay is pretty much closed in with plastic sheilds. I have had to run a rubber sheet from fender - fender and rad support - fire wall with just the air filter sticking out on top. It was cheap, and worked great, filter looked like new after 5 runs. I was looking into doing a snorkle inside the cab setup but am alittle worried that a 532ci bbf isnt going to get enough air through it. My biggest issue is the fender exit headers, thats where I get 90% of the splash from. The back of the filter gets caked with mud pretty quick, I will be working on a remedy for that this winter.
MF,
Our main problem is our distributor. Plastic bags and tape have not been working great for me. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I've tried rubber boots, different thicknesses of plastic, duct tape, zip ties, bread ties, bow ties, rail road ties, I've tried it all, and nothing seems to be totally foolproof for me. I'm really looking to find basic system that I can become comfortable with. We don't have as much displacement as you but close and use a dual snorkle set up. We run drags and bogs and also have a tall K&N with a breathable top that we use in dry conditions. We really can't tell the the difference in our times between the dual snorkle and the K&N. If I remember right the snorkle is rated at 800 for a single tube so our duals should be 1600CFM's. So with a 1000 CFM carb I figured the snorkle should be overkill with flow which would make us feel better. If a carb flows 850CFM or 1000 CFM it can't draw in any more than that no matter what the displacement, right??? I'm honestly not sure but I believe that how it works. That's why we didn't go any bigger .on displacement because our heads couldn't keep up with anything larger than a 502 cu in so thats the displacement we setttled on cause our heads weren't changing. The snorkle setup is neat cause it can be totally exposed with no worries. Our passenger tire throws mud directly up into our snorkles with no issues so far!!
Can you post a pic of what your finished product on your dist looks like sometime?
thanks,
Jeffro
Mud-Nut 10-22-2009, 11:03 PM Awesome video McQ!!!!! I really enjoyed it. Truck seems to run very good.
Mud nut,
Thanks, she doen't run bad? Looked at yer site to see your metal run but couldn't get the 2009 preview clip to work. Thanks again!
Jeffro
Mud-Nut 10-22-2009, 11:31 PM That's odd.... Are you on a Mac?? Fortunately, I also have the 2009 teaser uploaded on youtube... Here's a link:

P.S. I drive the black '79 Ford.
Thanks, she doen't run bad?
Oh... I'd be happy if mine ran like yours!!!!
Mud Freak 10-23-2009, 12:08 AM There is one other trick I tried with good results. I thought this guy was retarded when I saw what he was doing, but decided to give it a try. Get a can of vasoline, put a small gob inside each plug wire and coil wire, you gotta make sure they snap onto the plug good but any moisture that gets in and around those plug wires can make it run like the dizzy is wet. Seemed to work great on mine. I also spray the inside of the dizzy cap with WD-40 before I throw it back together and cover it up. That may be what the problem is. I still do see some moisture under the cap when its all sealed up but some is better then alot I guess.
Mud Nut,
Was able to view your video. Nice work! No mac here! Your black for runs well. What do you have in it and what front end puts up with all that fun? You guy have one of the greatest places to go wheeling that I've seen, looks kinda like the north west but something tells me that its the south east. That was some major air in the beginning!
MF,
I'll definently use the vasoline trick sounds like it will work well for the exposed areas. Thanks ! Wonder if I fill my dizzy with it, it'll keep the moisture outa there too!
Thanks,
Jefffro
79-6.9 10-23-2009, 08:40 AM Dialectric grease is made just for this, Smear some in both ends of the wire and where the wire goes into the boot. You need to vent the distributor or condensation will build under the cap and cause your missfire, I just run a vacuum hose from the cap vent into the cab.
I also silicone my cap and adapter down but, Unless you run underwater sometimes as I do this is overkill.
Thanks,
Where can a guy purchase such grease. The vent is a good idea. I too have siliconed my cap and adapter only to have condensation build up alot and turn all my contacts green with fuzzy stuff quick! I think I had ossmosses going on in there!
The vent gives me a great idea. We fish, and for our bait fish we use little one way valves on the airators so the water doesn't feed backwards into the air pump. the valves are very adaptable and could easily be siliconed to a hole in the cap but....it probably takes a slight amount of pressure for the valve to release in the direction it flows and the cap probably needs 100% unrestricked free flowing air to keep the moisture from building up doesn't it? Any ideas?

I cant help laughing, I battled the green fuzzys myself before venting the cap. The free flowing vent will be your best route. You can buy the grease at almost any auto parts store.

Thanks, glad you like it. I'm running 351M/C6/NP203 and 39.5" Boggers. The reason I came to this forum is because I'd like to start planning a 460 build for the truck eventually. But for now, the 351M lets me play (mild cam, 4bbl intake and carb, msd ignition, and 125 shot of nitrous every once in awhile). My front end is a D44 (for now). I'm running chrome-moly axle shafts (Alloy USA inners and Yukon outers), 5.13 gears, a welded diff, and Warn hubs. It holds up okay, but I occasionally break it. I have a kingpin D60 sitting in my yard, I just can't afford to build it the way I want to. I completely destroyed the 9" rearend a few seasons back, and I built a 14B FF for it. So I'm halfway done the 1-ton swap, hahaha!! Obviously I have to build the D60 before I can swap in a 460. So my plans are pretty slow going, mainly because I'm still a student. As for my location... Northwestern Ontario, Canada!!!
Mud Freak 10-23-2009, 02:27 PM Do you have an NP205 sitting there for it as well?? Would be anpther good thing to swap in with the rest of that 1 ton gear!!

Yup... I have an NP205 as well to go along with all the other swapped parts. But I'm not too sure if I'll do a 203/205 doubler, or just run a 205. Still lots of time to decide, haha.
