So after swapping out front diffs I noticed that my shocks were almost fully extended in the mounted position. The stock shocks are the stud type and everything that looks like a good upgrade has the horizontal mount built in to the end, looking at going to a set of fabtech dirt logic's. Anyways thinking of going to the horizontal mount, seems pretty straight foreward, weld a mount to front axle and add some extra material to stock shock towers to allow a bolt to slide through?

Shocks are already like 35" long, truck is a highboy with a 4" lift.

mounting style won't really help/hurt ya, if you plan to get longer shocks, just order the right length with stud mounting on each end to keep it a simple bolt on install.

nt sure, mine are 1/2 inch, why do you need such a large shaft?

I dont know that I need them but my father has gone through several sets of supposedly really nice shocks on his dodge, all blown out. He went to a set of the dirt logik shocks and so far they have held up and considering that Ive gone to much stiffer springs I thought it might be a good idea to spend a little to save a little, plus they look cool.

Well, I won't say that skyjacker is the best out there, but I've had a set of there nitro shocks on my truck for a long time. Been through many jumps, a bad roll over, many rough off road miles, and alot of mud racing. They've never blown out, leaked or failed me in any way, they are a 1/2" shaft and probably way cheaper then the dirt logic shocks.
