ngates0516 01-11-2006, 09:15 AM whats your guys thoughts, IF possible and still be able to run 93 octane gas? im looking to get around 650 hp. I already have ported iron D0VE-C's. Just looking for some recommendations on a kit, thats under $2,000.
DaveMcLain 01-11-2006, 09:28 AM For under $2000 you should be able to build a 521 or a 545 without any problems. Keeping the compression reasonable will probably be easier with the 521 esspecially if you are running a fairly mild camshaft. AD Performance has some very good deals on combos built with a Scat crank and rods and a set of off the shelf Probe pistons. I've used all of these parts before in a 521 build and it worked out great. With a set of ported DOVE heads and a Comp street roller cam it made 600 horsepower on 93 octane very easily at around 6000rpm.
ngates0516 01-11-2006, 10:40 AM could you give me a little more info on your setup, like carb/intake, then your cam set up? that sounds pretty reasonable to me. is the 521 a .030 bore, or is it a .060?
Paul Kane 01-11-2006, 11:07 AM that sounds pretty reasonable to me. is the 521 a .030 bore, or is it a .060?
521 is 4.39 Bore x 4.3 stroke. yes, it is only .030" overbore.
With your D0VE heads, dished 28cc pistons will put you at approximately 10.3:1 while 22cc dished pistons will put you at approximately 10.7:1.

ngates0516 01-11-2006, 12:07 PM Thanks alot guys, This is going in a 64 galaxie, Crites is the only headers i've seen made for a 460 in a galaxie so far, besides custom made ones. can they hold up to that much horsepower? i would get them coated also.
chilly 01-11-2006, 12:27 PM The Crites headers will easily support 650hp...
ngates0516 01-11-2006, 02:14 PM i figured, just making sure. and thanks.
Ed S. 01-11-2006, 10:49 PM Thanks alot guys, This is going in a 64 galaxie, Crites is the only headers i've seen made for a 460 in a galaxie so far, besides custom made ones. can they hold up to that much horsepower? i would get them coated also.

Yea! Thats what im talkin about! Crites fit perfect! Yes they can hold up. Im pushin just over 600 at the wheels......
Bigbub1968 01-12-2006, 01:28 AM Guys what combo would be better for a 5 speed street/strip Mustang LX....a 4.39 x 4.3 or a 4.440 x 4.14 stroker?? Looking for good power, without too much traction issues.....
ngates0516 01-12-2006, 06:47 AM Ed. I pm'd you
DaveMcLain 01-12-2006, 08:19 AM This 521 had a pretty much stock Victor 4150 style intake with a 950HP that I had custom built by Competition Carburetion. This carburetor was built using the regular 850 style baseplate so that I could hook up a PCV valve and vac advance easily.
Ed S. 01-12-2006, 08:36 AM Ed. I pm'd you
Got it, You have a reply.....
ngates0516 01-12-2006, 09:05 AM Thanks guys.
ngates0516 01-12-2006, 09:15 AM Whats your guys thoughts on a cam for this setup? something with a high .5XX lift on it? or would it be better to have a custom one ground? preferebly a hydraulic roller.
DaveMcLain 01-12-2006, 09:37 AM In the 521 I used a Comp Extreme Energy street roller grind, the one I used was the 284 degree version.
