Air Cleaner Help...

Hey all, time for an air cleaner for my bbf fox and I'm having a heck of a time finding one that will fit. I'm using a FRPP Victor-style single plane and a 4150 holley along w/ a 1/2 nitrous plate. My dilemia is even w/ a 1-1/4" drop base air filter and a 4" cowl hood. a 1-1/2" element only has about 1/8" clearance at the frt. I'm using the Fordified spacers so that's not an option. I would like to run the freest flowing air cleaner possible so any help would be appreciated.

But I am able to tell you who can't help. I looked thru my KN book and found nothing so I called the office in Cali and spoke to them about it, and they dont have anything that drops more than what you have currently. So, that puts KN out of the running. I'll check a couple more places. and get back to you. Maybe Green filters?

I failed. If there is a drop base more than that, I have not been able to stumble on it. Sorry dude.

thanks for the help. I can live w/ the 1/8" clearance at the hood. I think the cfm would be enough if I used a K&N filter lid but there's not enough space above the top of the carb, is there? If it matters, my carb doesn't have a choke tower. What is the rule of thumb for this clearance?

I see you already have installed the spacers. What engine mounts are you using? Some space the pan too far above the rack.

the frpp mounts

How far is the pan above the rack? You should have room for a better filter than that. The FRPP mounts are generally too long for low engine fitment. You could modify them.

How did the fit with the spacers go otherwise? What headers you using? Have you driven it yet?

spacers worked great. I'm using a set of headers from Bob at D&D. Rack is about 1 inch above the rack. I really can't lower the engine any more without some major header rework. Ground clearance is already an issue.

Yeah you might something custom, i've never seen ones below 1 1/4 drop base. Any way to consider a bigger hood? I have to do some customization to get my 5" flat base to fit under my 6" cowl. It barely touches underneath the hood, wondering if it would be ok to just leave it barley touching.

Before I cut a hole in the hood of my "70 Mustang, I had air cleaner clearance problems.....I cut the inside lip off a drop bottom air cleaner base, then, cut up another one. Then, I put one of the bases inside of the other....tack welded them up. This made a double drop bottom, and, with a 3" filter, I had lots of clearance. My 460, which is a mild build, seemed to get enough flow....

Sometimes you have to think out of the box......

Good luck with it....

I am considering doing this and am looking at incorporating an air pan to seal off the cowl hood.
