Phantasea466 01-11-2006, 11:36 AM Avatar size is limited to only 6kb
Chilly is there anyway to increase the size limit? For now I can only add my less than 6kb NOS avatar 8)
Really not a big deal but was just wondering because I'm sure there are others that are scratching their heads and wondering why their Ugly MUG can't be loaded as an avatar
jjmstang 01-11-2006, 01:29 PM If my ugly mug was included, Chilli would be looking for a new server to host this after it burnt down. LOL :D
jjmstang 01-11-2006, 01:30 PM And my avatar worked :D :D :D
ByronRACE 01-11-2006, 01:48 PM I personally don't like large annoying avatars...the size/shape restrictions are a positive in my mind. I've seen sites where the avatars can be like 300x300 and you end up with lots of big avatars, slow loading times and lots of scrolling due to all the white space between posts.
If this was put up as a Poll, I'd vote for leaving the avatars just as they are.
jjmstang 01-11-2006, 01:49 PM I agree with Byron
chilly 01-11-2006, 01:52 PM I'll see if it can be adjusted, but I'm with the others...small avatars are my preference.
For that matter, I'll look into restricting signatures as well...otherwise we'll have guys putting full size car pics in their signature and having them appear every time they post. It's a bandwidth and storage hog.

I agree on both counts, however 6kb seems very small. Maybe I'll have to shrink a few of the avatars. I wanted to add a dog drinking out of a toilet but it is somthing like 14.5kb
Signature is limited to 225 characters or maybe it was 255 characters?
Thanks!
ByronRACE 01-11-2006, 02:03 PM Send me the avatar, I'll fix it for you.

Sorry, but I don't want my address farmed by spammers...they know how to suck it out of forums like this.
chilly 01-11-2006, 02:21 PM Alright, I just went through the exercise and you're right...6kb is kind of tough.
My only avenue for shrinking them is to crop them as tight as possible, then shrink them down. Is there any other method for making the file size smaller...such as an image compressor?
Anyway, I can adjust the size but I want to wait for an answer on the compressor before opening it up...space costs money and wasting it on 'extras' like avatars isn't something I'd like to do.

Frugal, just like me LOL
Byron, I'll send it to ya' and see if you can make it less than 6kb :?:
466bbfox 01-11-2006, 03:04 PM I'd limit it to ~ 10kb, not that big, and if you compress images, they really lose their quality, bigtime. The 80x80 pixels is perfect, but at least bump up the kb to 10.
BigBlockRanger 01-11-2006, 03:30 PM Just checking my avatar.... ~ 4kb I believe.
460stang79 01-11-2006, 03:36 PM just checking my avatar, by the time i was done shrinking it i think its 2kb
Reddog 01-11-2006, 04:44 PM it will shrink Jpeg's to any file size i want. However pic quality diminishes as file size goes down, but sometimes not to bad till you get real small.
bulletpruf 01-11-2006, 05:28 PM Easy Graphics Converter 1.2 is the software you need. It's a free download. Someone on the site clued me in. Real helpful when posting pics on sites with limits on how large of a file you can post. Try google and I'll bet you find it.
Would also prefer larger/more memory on avatars, within reason, of course.

Phantasea466 01-12-2006, 11:53 AM Byron,
The avatar looks fine
Byron fixed my doggie so he would fit in the 6kb limit
phatfalcon 01-12-2006, 03:41 PM Hmmmmm....quality not so good. I'll shrink some others.
D.I.L.L.I.G.A.S. 01-13-2006, 04:37 AM
POLO1SAM 01-13-2006, 05:42 AM :x I don't think I have ever post on the old site, cuz I'am in ah with the the smart people. I learned early better to open ears, instead of mouth. But now I'll gone and open my mouth better close it before I prove that my villiage needs there idiot back.
Ps. This is only a test. Idiot with loose screw has gone home.
466bbfox 01-14-2006, 01:10 AM I optimized and shrunk my image in my sig space, its only ~15kb, how does it look? Should be ok for dial-up users, not a big file. AND....it doesn't use any of Chilly' s bandwidth, nor does my avatar.
ONEBAD555NOTCH 01-14-2006, 07:58 AM ive tried and tried whats the problem...

You have to be smarter than the Avatar :P
