My Mild 472 Buildup with Stock Shortblock and Iron C8 heads

My engine began life as a stock Jasper shortblock, bored .060 over, stock rods, and dished pistons. I picked it up for only $600, so I figured what the heck. I had a set of C8 heads from another engine, which I added new stock size 2.08 / 1.65 SS valves, hardened exhaust seats, screw in studs and guideplates. I added 1.73 Lunati roller rockers, and a Lunati Bracket Master II cam, which has 280-290 duration, .516-.543 lift. I'm using a Weiand Stealth intake, Holley 850 double pumper, MSD Ignition and Distributor, Crites 2" headers with full 2.5" exhaust. I installed a TCI Full Competition reverse manual valve body C6, with a 10" TCI Streetfighter Converter. The rear has a set of 3.89 gears, in an old "N" case from my 70 Torino Cobra. My 4035 lb car, with me in it, has turned a best with this combination, of 12.91 @ 103.14 and a 1.85 60' time, on Drag Radials. This is driving to the track, and idling for 30 minutes in the staging lanes. My battery was weak, and I had to keep jump starting it with a jump it, if I turned it off.

I guess I wanted to share a low budget, lower HP 460 here. :D I do plan on some future work this spring, so my HP numbers will be coming up a tad. I did have a different Lunati cam, in a similar engine a few years ago, which did a best of 12.7 @ 106.99, through 3" Flowmaster's with turndowns. That cam was a 310 duration, .540 lift, and sounded pretty nice. 8) My car is 99% street driven, been to Buffalo, NY and back from the Jersey Shore, so I only go to the track once in awhile.

Great times for a low budget build Pat. I'd get those rods and pistons upgraded before you make more power or it could get expensive.

Those are some good ETs for a budget build good job if you plan on making more HP in the future I would put some better rods in it.. those stock rods like to break on the small end and poke holes in your block..

Thanks Brock and Rich. 8) I do plan on getting new rods, and forged pistons in the near future. I'm researching a good set of aluminum street heads too, that would not create any problems with the Crites headers in my Fairlane. The bottom end is top priority, because I'm actually thinking of going with a Vortech Supercharger, 5-6psi, to do something different. I have alot of ideas in my head, and can do it for a song and a dance. One of our members Scott V, is selling a set of H-beams for $300, that would be perfect for me. I plan on keeping the stock crank for now, so what do you guys think of those rods from DSC Motorsport? They are in the auction block forum.

Pat, I asked the same question on the old forum before I bought these rods myself, not one guy had any input good or bad, I would encourage you to call Dennis at DSC Motorsports (909-763-9765) to get the low-down from the source. As I understand, these are a Chinese forging that are machined in the USA.

Nice job - I too went with a budget build in my Galaxie. 10.5 to 1 domed 466 / .530 lift .220 ish duration @ .050. Ran 13.20 /102/1.8 all day at 4200lbs.For what its worth I swapped the bigs 750 vac carb to a 750 (flows 850) quickfuel dp and went 12.96 @ 102 with a 1.73 60ft time.

So I finally see the specs on the old motor :D

I know the cam in the torino motor sounded SICK! I would love to imitate the sound it made!!

Hey Tom! Yeah, that was a potent little setup. It's now in my brother's 47 Ford Truck, so we'll see how it pushes that baby along. It has the bigger Lunati cam I use to have in there (310 durantion / .540 lift), and everything else is the same.

My new 521 is something else. If I can get it to hook up and get out of the hole quicker, I think I have high 11's. :D

I am going to base my setup off what you have now, but with the Kaase P-51s.

I'm inspired by the sound of the cam in your old Torino cobra
