Hey guys,

I just got my latest issue of Popular Hot Rodding and there is a real nice 8 pg. article on the Livernois Ford entry that finished in third place in the EMC contest. Lot's of pictures and explainations of everything, so you need to make sure you pick this issue up.

The 2006 contest will be the 5th year for the pump gas deal, and I think they (PHR) have about run this in the ground. As Jon K. said; "It's a controlled detonation contest", whereas in the beginning I'm sure PHR was thinking they'd help street rodders learn how to build their engines, and run them on pump gas.

Well, with all of this long stroke, small bore, short rod, welded combustion chamber theory, we gone way beyond PRACTIAL street engine building, so I'm ready for a change.

How about the 2007 contest being for RACE GAS??? I'd like to see the same basic set of rules in regards to no titanium valves, no shaft rocker arm systems, no dry sumps, and etc. but let's change it around for 5 years of practical race engine building. They can have a spec gas such as VP C-12 or C-14, but it needs to be intended for practical real world race engines.

As an example of what the situation has become, Randy Malik built a very competitive big block Ford engine in 2003, but then after the contest was over he couldn't sell it. How many of you were/are in the market for a $15,000 pump gas engine? Very few if any. Now thing if all these entries were based on racing gas, wouldn't a bunch more of you be in the market for a $15,000 racing engine, with essentially the same parts?

Just my .02 cents worth,
