before I get to the good part, hwyhog was inquiring to greenbroncoguy as to were to get this desktop dyno, I am also interested in this product as well. ANYWAY; this happened last summer but it's still pretty coolto tell poeple about it. I got into a discussion @ "Wally World" with a guy who was braggin' up his '05 "cummwagon"about how he could out pull anything the competition has just because the dealer said so. Well I told him I got no use for them diesel trucks because my 460 wil do anything it will do (just be a little harder on gas). First thing he says is "my Dodge makes 600 lbs of TQ, I said SO!! Then he says, where's your truck; when I showed him my truck he & his pal just laughed. It was an '85 F250 460 "police" motor ( with SOME work) C6 trans. To make a looong story shorter, we went to a 1/4 spot that was marked out when I was in H.S. lined 'em up in "pinks" fashion & when his bud dropped his hands, we were off. He pulled me from the hole 'till I popped it into 2nd @ about 6200 and when I pulled 3rd @ about 58-5900 he was about 6 lengths back. When we stoped his bud said HOLY #*%$!!! you gotta be runnin' the bottle I said nope, there's just a big difference between charcoal & gas. Then there's the TQ, my friend has a '97 "powerjoke" with an edge upgrade. I told him the same thing about the 460's and their pullin' power. He refused to believe me, saying NO gas motor can pull with a diesel. So I had him hook onto my 6250# camper & we ran his truck from 0-60. He did it in 15.8 secs. Then we hooked my '85 F250 up, same 0-60, 13.7 secs. Now I know there are diesels out there that will probably eat my lunch ( chipped, gassed, twin turboed, etc), but not those two. They say opinions are like you know whats, But a good 460 WILL kick your butt!!! I know it was long but it's almost as fun telling it as it was doing it. I said ALMOST!! Hope you enjoy.

Hey Mudfreak, I started with a stock 460 P.I. I got from my pops. I had it bored .030 & decked @ .005 with some flat top TRW's nothing major with the heads just new SS 2.19/1.76 valves & port matched to the SCJ intake that came on the motor, massaged, not ported the exhaust just cleaned out the tiny nipple of an egr bump & polished the ports to a mirror finish along with smoothing & polishing the bowls on both sides. Then I went to Bill Metzger @ Laser Cams for the cam lifters & springs; grind#FF-H275a-280b-08, serial #20678 it is225/230 @ .050 547/534 lift with a 108 lobe sep.on a 104 centerline. RPM range is 1800-6000, and I put Comp Cams Pro Magnum full roller rockers @ 1.73, with Comp Cams 3/8 magnum pushrods. The bottom end is pretty much stock crank/rods zero balanced. Topped off with an 800 Holley D.P. I don't know the power/tq #'s but it sure runs good!!!

cool, my engine should be very similar to yours. Seems to be a good combonation for the 460.

Yeah it works great, now that I have it out I should take it in to the dyno so I can get some #'s on it before I put it in my '67 Galaxy. That way when I get pulled over I can give the officer my dyno slip when he asks why I'm in such a hurry.

Sounds like you have a nice engine. :D I had a 1974 F-100 with a 460 bult similar and it ran very good and got 10 mpg. I now have a 2001 POWERSTROKE (not powerjoke ) and use it to pull my 1974 F100 gragtruck with a BBF. I get 17-18 unloaded with fairly heavy driving. I love Ford trucks and the BBF. I don't care for the Powerstroke bashing that goes on here from time to time. They are all Ford and we are supposed to be on the same team. :D

Hey David, no harm intended with the powerstrokes, they're all just pet names. I've got a ton of respect for them, we have two in my family & we use them regularly for long haul towing BECAUSE of the mileage. And I concur, we are on the same side, just remember, a race is a race regardless; AND the "BLUE OVAL" IS the Pacemaker for the Heartbeat!!
