I'm using a set of ARP head studs for my new engine and I have a question. I'm tall filling the block with hard block and installed the studs along with an old head gasket and TFS a460 head to pre-stress the block while it sets up. Not knowing any different I torqued it to 140 lbs. Then I found the instruction sheet that came with the studs. It explained that the proper torque would be 144 lbs w/arp moly lube ( which I used ). It then went on to say that to account for the expansion of aluminum components, one should torque to 115 lbs. My question is, am I ok to pre-stress the block at 140 lbs during the hard block process ( since the engine will be cold ) and then torque to 115 lbs for final assembly? Or do I have it all wrong?
