    Randy,

I'm still working on the 468 that I run in the hydroplane. I've stepped it up some by adding some timing (38* Total now). The result is that it's building enough horsepower to drive the boat the whole time.

I've discovered yet another weak link in the 385 armor. The oil drain back paths.

The block has been modified with two returns from the valley to the chain case area. I also installed the top end oil restrictors call out by Ford. Still pooling oil in the head/valve cover area.

So now I'm installing two -12AN external return lines to drain oil back to the pan.

I spoke to the original builder at Kenitics in Detroit. He said that they also found that there simply wasn't enough oil return to the pan (it's a dry sump system) and that they also installed two external oil drains.

I'll post some photos when I get the whole thing back together.

Love reading your responses....they help a lot.

    Phil

Randy, I need a set of cam bearings you mentioned in a previous post. I need one wide one for the front and standard for the other four. And I need to know how to pay you.
    Thanks

I use a small drill mindex from a 360 drill to a #80 drill and find out what size it is ... then I go 2 or 3 though larger.

    Randy, you had mentioned this:

"Down low with the lean response is simply that the off-idle system is not rich enough and opening the idle feed restriction about 2 or 3 thou usually cures the problem." in this thread about my edelbrock carb.

Do you happen to know what size drill bit I should use for this? I do not have the means to measure what's there, nor do I have the means to figure out what size bit would be 2 or 3 thou larger. Richening it way up really woke it up and I may try hitting the idle feed restrictions w/ a drill bit for one last shot at it. I appreciate the help for sure.
