I'm still working on the 468 that I run in the hydroplane. I've stepped it up some by adding some timing (38* Total now). The result is that it's building enough horsepower to drive the boat the whole time.
I've discovered yet another weak link in the 385 armor. The oil drain back paths.
The block has been modified with two returns from the valley to the chain case area. I also installed the top end oil restrictors call out by Ford. Still pooling oil in the head/valve cover area.
So now I'm installing two -12AN external return lines to drain oil back to the pan.
I spoke to the original builder at Kenitics in Detroit. He said that they also found that there simply wasn't enough oil return to the pan (it's a dry sump system) and that they also installed two external oil drains.
I'll post some photos when I get the whole thing back together.
