Took the boat out this weekend for a test run: Fresh carbs, fresh jet pump, and a complete tune up.
This boat is nothing fancy.
1978 Hawaiian 19'.
A 460 taken from a 72 Lincoln Continental.
Tunnel with dual Holley 4160's.
That's pretty much it.
No supercharger.
No NOS.
Still pushed 65-70mph with me and Fred in the boat.
Jet boats usually use an open cooling system and get the entire lake as part of their cooling system.
Nice video. I have a Southwind 18-ft. Here's an old clip from Anderson Reservoir in Gilroy, CA, a test & tune day, 73.5 mph on GPS. The boat has since managed 85.3 gps at the same location but at a later date. 466 w/tunnel ram. Click HERE.
A jet boat uses raw lake water and spits it out the back of the boat, and out of the headers. Without water cooled headers, the pipes would pretty much melt since you are turning about 4500-5000 rpm most of the time.
I love this stuff.
Keeps me young for sure.
Hey 460....this is my set up.....'76 Kona, 19'.....This engine is just a itty-bitty 472", but the last one was a 514" pumping about 700 horses! YE HAW!

I should just buy a set of seats like that since I really hate the bench in mine. I have no intention of pulling skiers, so I just need 2 forward seats and that's it.
My friend Fred(the passenger in the vid) is building a 73 Kona Old 455 boat from the ground up. I'll show him this. He'll like this for sure.
My boat is very basic for sure. I don't even have a place diverter yet, but thank the Lord for the Big Block Ford! It flattens our faces just fine for only a $3000 investment!
That paint system I created myself, it's PPG Corvette yellow with Tangerine Pearl in the clear coat...in the sun it's so bright that it hurts your eyes and as the sun goes down and the sunset gets reder or you put it near anything that has red in it the whole paint job turns red! I like it. It's for sale too......too many toys.....I'd sell it with or without the engine, if I sell it without I'd throw in enough engine parts to pretty much build a mild 460.....$21K with/$5,500 without.
Awww Bill.....you don't know the half of it man! lol Perma-grin city lol.
You can't see it in the pics but I had a sign made for the dash that reads:
Notice:
Prolonged periods of psychotic screaming,
pleading and flailing about will NOT be tolerated....
So....Get in, sit down and holdontoyourass!
The first time I took my friend's 19 year old daughter and her friend out for a ride, they screamed from start to finish and said they would never get in a boat with me ever again.
An hour later it was, "Hey, can we go for another ride?"
thursday nites at lake Keystone. often have a couple dozen boats. most are jets but a few flats and hydros. mostly BBC with a lot of blown alcohol motors. the ford is pretty highly respected!
