How much does a complete iron 460 weigh? How much weight is shaved by using aluminum heads and intake?

Also, anyone know how much a complete iron head/intake 350 Chevy weighs?

Guys, what do you think from this? Left side weights are the std. weights which I found from the internet (can't remember from whose web-pages). Right side weights are modified only with the weight of aluminium heads, aluminium intake, aluminium waterpump and I skipped the headers because there are so many variations. This should get you in the ballbark. If there is something you disagree please let me know.

The figures I have read before list a fully dressed (I guess thats pants and a shirt, etc. :shock: ) iron 460 at 720lbs.

You can reduce about 30lbs per head and 30lbs for intake. Total est weight 630lbs.

I'm sure others here have the actual numbers.

Hope this helps,

Bill

Yep, there are some items missing like;
- fan blades & clutch
- flexplate or flywheel

and maybe something else, but this chart was made to compare the different engine's weights in oem condition and after aluminium head, intake, waterpump upgrade. All the aluminium parts were actually scaled, FE waterpump, Weiand aluminium 429, etc.

I weoghed mine before I installed it in my fairlane. Here is the stats.545 cid, aluminum super cobra jet heads, victor intake 1050 dominator, stock dist, flex plate, large starter, aluminum water pump,aluminum valve covers. weighed it on my old farm scale as I call it. It is accurate I checked with my weight on another scale. 576 lbs It is now a bit lighter I think, as I have added a meziere water pump and a small geared starter. :shock:
