Nice.

Thanks for the always well detailed updates. They always make me feel as i haven't done anything on my project though :)

Anyway. the manufacturers offering items that they have no support for is surprising. They must have bought some ones idea, not the tech behind it.

nos

They did..... Holley bought out NOS and the head guy from NOS is now doing NX and those guys REALLY know their sh*t!!! Wasn't on phone but 5 minutes and knew what I needed, needed to do, how to figure changes, things to watch for running alky and nitrous AND had the new alky compatible solenoid on the way to me. If anyone has questions or wants to get the right setup the FIRST time I would call those guys in a heartbeat! I talked with 4 other companies/manufacturers of nitrous systems and all they could tell me is what their brochure said, lol. These guys were all over it!!!

pistons

Hey Rob!
How's life treating ya?
Those are Diamond forged pistons with a 33cc custom dish for CR purpose.

Take it easy and it was good to see you on here. I haven't been on nearly as much since parts started coming in and I started working on it. Will post pics as it comes together...... AGAIN, lol

powder coating booth

Got my powder coating spray booth finished today!!!!! Looks like I will be coating engine parts this weekend!!! Timing cover and oil pan first!!! Got a lot of nice candy colors and translucent colors too...... Give me a week to get mu things caught up on and if anyone needs some parts coated let me know. I will treat ya right! :)

Will post some pics of it tonight or in AM.......

Have a good one!!!

Happy Easter!!!!!

Did my first powder coat job! Did timing cover in dark translucent blue over a silver base. For my first job it came out AWESOME! I can't believe how easy!!!

Then yesterday my daughter and I cut out and fit the Lexan windshield. Now to notch it and form a doghouse to install.

I mocked up the short block with a freshly ported and polished Eddy Vic Jr and installed a 726 lift cam to check clearances and no problem! I ordered my new Lunati solid roller
gross lift 796/803
adv dur 326/334
dur@50 288/296
LSA/ICL 114/110
lash .024/.026 hot
RPM range 4800-8200

I have to go longer on the pushrods to get my geometry that I want. Running Crane Gold Wide Body 1.73 roller rockers and Crane roller lifters. REMEMBER, I also had roller cam bearings installed. Jomar rocker stud girdles to stiffen it up.

Installed my crank trigger magnet wheel on back side of steel blower pulley hub. Couldn't get a crank trigger for a blower set up without going with the good ones from RCI. I found Aerospace had a flying magnet kit for BBC with roots style blower but holes DID NOT match up.... with a little careful "hand held" machining I got it to fit. I installed it when I checked the cam and run-out was LESS than .004. The recommended gap is between .060-.080. That gives me .020 to play with so my .004 run-out will be fine! I can also mount the data logger pickup on the other side and use the same wheel... DOUBLE DUTY!

Doing oil pan tomorrow and mounting pump, dizzy shaft, pickup and pan. Flex plate and tapping out soft plug holes.....

Will post updated pics asap..... I am starting to post my extras in the auction block so keep looking for more stuff...

Listed 10gal fuel cell and tall alum valve covers today. Have new Malory Unilite dizzy, intake, carbs, air cleaners, main girdle and stud girdle, roller cams, roller lifters and roller rockers and many other parts that I will be listing over next few weeks so keep looking back. Will try and give heads up on here when posting parts. Also selling my block and heads that I pulled out.

Stay tuned!!!!!

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!!!!!

update

Getting rid of a lot of my extra parts finally and also making headway on the car!

But selling parts, posting, packaging, texting pics, shipping, etc, etc..... SURE CAN TAKE A LOT OF YOUR TIME AWAY FROM YOUR PROJECT!!!!!!! hahaha

But thanks to those who have sold to me in the past and those who are buying from me now. I'm just trying to help some people out.... I'm not asking for every penny I can get, but if a part has 5 passes on it I'm not going to give it away either! lol

All I do ask is that the people who buy something because THEY need it..... USE IT, and not beat me up on price just to repost it and make a few bucks. That's not how I see this forum being.... It should be Ford guys helping Ford guys... AND GALS!!!!

I have learned a lot, used it's services and tried to give something back!

LETS KEEP IT THAT WAY!!!

Thanks guys!!!! Oh... AND GALS if you are out there!!! hahaha

No big write up today, lol. You pretty much know by now what all is going in it! I did switch from the crane lifters to Howards (morels?), MUCH better movement. I feel a lot better! Clearance from valve to pistons is just short of .100 at closest point. So now everything is going together for the LAST time! Hope to have motor/tranny buttoned up over the weekend and then finish what I have to in engine compartment...... will see how it goes...

Hope all of your projects are coming along faster than mine (or finished!)

Take it easy!!!

Still have to squeeze the safety plate and NOS plate under the hat..... running to summit for some gaskets, lol.....

Looking great as usual!

Are you shooting for this July to get the car all together? Or?

#197 ·
Norwalk dragway has their All Ford Nationals coming up the second week of next month so I am working day and night to make it to that one! Even if just to start t&t ing... but I am hoping to have it tuned in enough to make some decent passes :)

I have a few things in the engine bay to do and the new wiring to finish up. Secure the lexan windshield. New hood probably won't make it in time so I am going to have to get creative to make the old one look presentable. TIC TOC TIC TOC...... lol

Keeping my fingers crossed for a good combination.... time will tell.....

#196 ·
I called on the others and they were going to be a couple weeks to get them... couldn't wait but I really appreciate the info!!!

Great lifters!!! Really glad I made the change with the bigger lift and the bigger springs.... Still thinking I should order the thicker pushrods but going to see what happens.....

#199 ·
That's what YBS told me when I asked them about what you needed... They said you might want to look into a machine shop... Or in your case.... machining them. Like I said in PM... they have NOTHING in their books or ever even remember of them and they are a pretty big place that specializes in just bolts and fasteners!

Good Luck To You!!!!

#200 ·
My research tells me that pretty much the only major manufacturer that used them was early Ford for their tie rod ends in right and left.....and of course.....LENCO. I guess they didn't want anyone else selling lug nuts for their hubs lol.

Man that blower looks puuuuurty!

I put a LOT of "elbow grease" in polishing the intake the other night. Got intake on and timing cover/engine plate/water pump all on for last time. Going out now to put blower/restraint plate/NOS plate and injection hat on. Blower needs some of that "elbow grease" put to it also!!! Just got back from using a friends tanks to weld a temp sending unit fitting in my oil pan. So hopefully it will be buttoned up with tranny hanging on it by the end of the weekend (Monday counts as weekend right? lol) I will have to kick some MAJOR A** next week getting engine compartment ready to drop it in and all the new ignition wiring and data logging wiring run... the clock is ticking BIG TIME!!!!!

YEA.... You seem to have some rare nuts on you buddy!!! lol Hope you can figure a way to make them something work!

Got bad news for you though.... my 6-71 is getting pretty dirty sitting there on that bench..... Poor thing isn't going to be looking to good pretty soon! lol

Hope all is going well up there for you and have a great weekend!!!!

PS
Ever find out anything more on the chute? Just curious. Had a friend ask me if I was going to put one on and I told him what I told you.... I like the smooth lines too much to put one on till I HAVE too! lol

FINALLY!!!!

Well...... after MANY set backs and 3 steps forward/2 steps back, etc... I am REALLY happy that I actually got the new motor dropped in today!!!!! WOO HOO!!!! well over a month behind schedule but at least it's off the stand and back at home where it belongs!

Got the crank trigger on and all the data logger sensors. It was a bit of over kill but I figured it was better to add what I wanted now rather than having to drill and tap things after engine was together! lol

As it stands, the following have sensors: water temp/pressure, oil temp/pressure, tranny temp/pressure, fuel temp (in front tank) and pressure at injection lines, blower manifold pressure/temp, ambient air temp, 8-EGT (one in each header tube), left steer RPM, crank RPM & drive shaft RPM. Also added low oil light to come on at 20psi and low oil shut down at 10psi. Longitude/latitude G-force & engine rpm .

Changed the 6AL to 7AL-3 to work with crank trigger and boost master timing control. And numerous other changes listed in the posts above, like Lexan windshield and doghouse to give more room for 8-71 and Blue Thunder intake......

Been hooking up this that and the other things all day and was very happy when my injection pump mount on frame lined right up with the pulley on crank! Tranny only takes 30-45 minutes to put in but will probably take most of weekend to get it in because of other matters.

Still lots to do but hoping the list finally get shorter and the back-steps get fewer and further in between :)

A few picks of new firewall, doghouse, windshield and engine dropped in.......

AWOL!

Hey Ya'll!!
I knew I had been gone a while but didn't realize just how long until I saw the dates of my last posts! lol
I hope all of you & your projects/races are kicking *** and taking names!!!
Last summer here in NE Ohio started out with 3 months of rain so I pretty much threw a cover over the Torino for the year.
At the end of this month a local car club is getting the strip for a day of "run what ya brung fun" so I'm hoping mother nature plays nice and I can actually get it set up/tuned in properly!
No real changes in anything since new eng/trans except I updated the electrical a bit to include auto rods soft touch controls and added power window conversion kits.
Talk to you all real soon.
I have videos of it running when I first fired it and was trying to tune the injection. When I figure out how to upload video I will put them up. After a good bit of racking my brain with the injection I found that the barrel valve was overlooked during the switch from gas to alcohol when I sent the system out. I now know A LOT about injection tuning, testing, setting up poppet/barrel valves, etc etc, lol. Best way to learn is to have a problem like that! lol
Take it easy everyone and here is to a GREAT summer of racing!!!

Man, you made the right move, looks wise for sure, going to injectors. Those carbs were outrageous.

I know nothing about boost, turbos etc, even less about blowers and injections...just curious, in a prev post you said your cam was 600 lift?

Seems small by my naturally aspirated experience, are blower motors better off with less lift etc than a carb motor? I know you have to knock the compression back. Im running 10.9.1 CR on my street car, carb motor, and near 800 lift on the cam, and that was a step down to make it streetable lol.

Just curious about the mindset of blower motors.

cam and compression

Also, with alcohol I was able to keep compression higher and the cam lift is only one part. You are "supposed" to have less valve overlap with blown but anytime you get that high with lift while keeping the suggested centerline there is still a LOT of overlap! I think my engine only builds compression on about a half of the stroke. I have the actual degrees wrote down somewhere. But to give you a "for instance", I can turn my engine over using the top blower pulley and an 18" beaker bar with minimal effort! I honestly thought "this thing is messed up! It ain't NEVER going to start with compression like that!" HTG!!! But it fired right up!!! I have the cranking cyl pressure test around here too. I checked before first start & after 30 minute break in. Numbers were like 140 and then 150 so rings were seating better & engine heat sealed things up a little better. I guess that's where blower drive comes in.... it makes up for that lower compression, lol Maybe not... time will tell :)

I hope to have some "on track" videos at the end of the month!
Give me some tips on how to link videos to this and I will or I will put them on my facebook page like before. I don't use fb much so would have to make sure I remember my login, lol.
Hey Gydyup.... You are right on the cam but that was "before" the transformation from the .030 460 over to the new block bored/stroked to 510. It should be in here somewhere but this engine was built from bottom to top with specs that might actually "work" together, lol. The cam is now 796/803 lift with 114 centerline and duration @ .050 being 288/296.
There is very little that I used from last engine on this one other than the 8-71 and Blue Thunder intake that was put on the other engine right before it came out.
Like you, prior to this car the only blower/turbo knowledge I had was on the thousands of diesels I worked on/rebuilt over the years. Injection? Same thing. Alcohol? I knew it was good for drinking! :)
But through this endeavor I have learned a LOT. One little over site on my injection when converted from gas to alky turned into me knowing the ins and outs of my system, how to test, adjust, set up everything from base idle poppets to WOT port valve, barrel setting, etc etc and how a tiny little spec of anything can cause you a lot of head scratching! With alcohol I now know it's effects on fuel systems, oil, hands, skin, lungs and eyes! Man that S**t burns!!!!
All of that and I still know nothing about racing an alky injected blown BBF!!!! But it has been a heck of a lot of fun learning!!!
My hats off to all of you out there that have tuning down to a science! You are my idols!!!!
I have a hood to cut out and loose ends to button up so I am outta here for now.
Talk to you all later!
P.S. I still have a lot of parts that I am selling off. I will try to get them listed soon. Intakes, carbs, some electronics, air cleaners, etc etc.

Now were talking, your up there with me on my cam! But a blower, man that thing should cackle. Awesome.

ON the videos, pics all the same...I take them with my Iphone or Galaxy is what I have, then plug into my home computer...download to a file.

then go to Photobucket, upload pics selected pics from that file (hold control and click on what you want) and videos all the same. Careful to create albums in your photo bucket.eg. blower, brakes, videos etc, and file your photos in the albums. If you keep them in on one place and later move them to another album, they disappear from your posts, and you get the screaming kitties like I have.

Once in photo bucket albums, you just open the album an pics, and there will be a menu on the right, click on the IMG button to copy it, paste into a work doc.
Save the word doc as a plain txt doc, then copy n paste the plain txt doc into the new post block on here.

Maybe easier ways, but like boost, I am a computer Rambo, if it aint hard, I aint doing it.

Thanks Gydyup..... It seems to have worked although by the time I got it figured out my laptop was about on fire and running slow, lol. Let me know if they open up ok...
Thanks again, first time I used photobucket and/or uploaded a video to here (and all that after a night of Cinco De Mayo which just happens to be my divorce anniversary, lol)

injection injection injection!

First.. those videos are out of order. lol
Second, those were made at initial start up when there was a little corrosion getting in my main poppet and I was loosing pressure and it still had the wrong barrel in my fuel block. Now, today, as I clean & check the entire fuel injection system over and prep it for the end of the month run something from an injection book I saw/read (reading is F U N D A M E N T A L!)... I notice my injection hat nozzle holders were never swapped from blown gas to blown alky holders. They have two (2) relieve holes each where as blown alky is supposed to only have ONE (1)!
How I ever got that to run with three different fuel injection issues is beyond me BUT it does explain why I couldn't find my "sweet spot" between fat and lean!
I can't wait to get it back together and see just how much of a difference there is in getting my base setting! At least I would HOPE there is a difference AND that its a good difference!!! lol
Learning more everyday and will NEVER know enough!!!
